I have a Hy Hunter Western Six Shooter .357 Magnum thus: This gun has the Christy type firing pin, and I'd like to swap that out for a Colt style hammer mounted firing pin. I know I'll need a new recoil plate, but from whom, or wherem, could I find one? I asked this of Hamilton Bowen about the Colt style and he told me thse won't work, as the Christy firing pin assembly is screwed in, while the Colt one is a press fit. Any suggestions from ya'll? The firing pin body is two pieces, the shield and the cap, and they screw together with the rear cylinder wall between. So the wall itself and the opening is just like Colt. Take the firing pin assembly out, and you can probably install a Colt style firing pin shield and then a hammer.
Thing is, hammer change may necessitate a a trigger, hand, and cylinder bolt change as well. Colt or generic Italian parts will work. Its just going to take a lot of hours and parts to get it right.

So the only threaded part is the firing pin assembly, like a bolt and nut in a plain hole? Bob Wright

Yes, that's a proper analogy Bob.

You need a split screwdriver to get that body out. Write me with your address, I'll send you one. Send it back whenever.
