I just got the new SRH in .480 and it is also sporting the new bull barrel as well as a cylinder that is machined to different specs than the last go around. Have just started testing and will post when I have more data gathered.

Max.... Five shot .480? Major improvement. From your photos, I prefer the new bull barrel. Also, based on photos, the new front sight is a folly of penny pinching over smart marketing. The original Redhawk insert represents the most innovative of changeable front sights, continuing through the followup Super Redhawk base. Your photos show the new front sight secured with three screws, a tip of the hat to recoil. But, even if it isn't, it looks cheap, and that is a bad scene on a high end revolver.
A return to the real SRH sight is in order. The struggle to bring back the five shot cylinder won, celebration should not be muted at the front sight. The Redhawk sight system should be iconic at Ruger. David Bradshaw

I have to report that every load tested thus far (CorBon, Hornady, Buffalo Bore, Grizzly Cartridge) has extracted beautifully (the complaint has always been extraction). Front sight isn't the most aesthetically pleasing but as long as it works, I am okay with it. I will hopefully really start ringing it out next week.

Max, Old Boy, sorry for the faux paw.
Spoke with Howdah Whitworth a few moments ago and he set me straight on Ruger's revised .480 SRH. And he may begrudge me into accepting the new sight----long as I don't have to retrofit the Ruger 03 with it. David Bradshaw

One man's lemon, another man's lemonade! With a suite of SRHs in hand and a few more that have passed through I'll have to say that I prefer the original SRH front sight as well. A possible slight shift in preferences might happen if we could get 2 Dawgs to whip us up same nice patridge blades like he did for the Single Sixes and BFRs. That little well formed base and patridge blade just might be the cat's meow on the New SRH..

I don't care for the new front sight either. At least on the older guns you can replace that horrid orange insert blade with a Bowen unit.

Max, I hate you!!! I would love one of the new 480's, Are they on the shelves yet, or is this something from your trip to their plant? What do the new ones run? Did I mention I really want one? A new 480 AND a new 454 SRH is really unfair!!!!! Hope the 480 ends up shooting as good for you as the 454 does.

No, I believe this is the very first one in the new configuration that has left the factory. Just got it recently. I guess we'll find out what it can do soon.

We normally have a few new SRHs on the shelf and I'm watching hard for this new model. I may look to see how many we have on the shelf in back this week.. Haven't seen any words from the Dawgs about providing us a proper sight for these beasts..

Haven't seen any words from the Dawgs about providing us a proper sight for these beasts.. None are available yet, Stan. When I got the .480, I was told by the production manager that this was the first one of its kind to leave the factory. I don't know how long before they start pushing 'em out the door. So far everything I have fed it has extracted rather nicely. Just hope I can get it to shoot as well as the .454.

TOO high pressure. Wonder what's going on here...... Can they reream the old ones........ I'll be watching this one. Thanks Ol Buddy.
