Here are a couple of work in progress pics of the 480 New Vaquero. They haven't fit the S&W rear sight yet. The S&W barrel's shank and underlug have been cut off and re- threaded. Keep in mind, this is a "before" picture, the front of the frame still has to be welded up and re-contoured to match up with the barrel. This is going to be such a little sweetheart when it's done!! Here are a couple more that were in the shop: This is the 500 maximum that's listed in the rugerforum classifieds. This thing is going to be stunning!! It's going to be just like Whitworth's This one is a 500 Linebaugh Redhawk that Jack built in 1992. Terry Wallace did the engraving. It's back in the shop getting some stag grips made. I think I may have posted a pic of this one before, It's one of the neatest revolvers I've seen. A 500 JRH Bisley fitted with a Colt Anaconda Barrel.

Steve, I can't wait to see yours finished that gonna be a nice one. What's the recoil on a 500 max like? Biggest I ever shot was a redlined 454 casull in a SRH..... it was eye opening other than a smith 500 that shot only off the shelf loads.

How long is your vaquero barrel going to be? It should finish out right at 4 5/8". It's first life was 6" model 29 barrel, the re-boring was done in house. The red ramp front sight blade is going to be milled off and replaced with a Baughman ramp blade.

All neat guns! Why the New Vaquero frame instead of the larger old model for the .480? I realize the cylinder is the main strength point but seems like the larger frame might hold up a little better over time. Just curious.

So has he basically extended the factory XR3 grip frame to more closely resemble the 1860 Army?

I was in Jack's shop about a year ago, and got to handle a couple of mid frame .480's they were working on them. I like the idea of big power in a tidy little package. My version of a perfect packin' pistol.

So has he basically extended the factory XR3 grip frame to more closely resemble the 1860 Army? Pretty much. I would say it feels like a cross between a 1860 and a Ruger Bisely

Sweet! That gives me something else to think about. I have a revolver in my possesion (belonging to a friend) that has an XR3-RED that has been given the treatment by Huntington and it is a great grip under heavy recoil. I really like it. Haven't handled an XR3 with the treatment yet, though.
