Just received a call from a guy who evidently met me years ago at a Louisville gun show where I had a few tables. Must have kept my card.
Anyway, he says he wants to sell his TLA Border Special in 45LC, new and unfired in the wooden presentation box he received it in when he ordered it.
I'm driving to his place tomorrow to have a look. Just in case, I'll take some of the money I've been saving for a new roof on the house. He has other TLA's of various sorts which I'll photograph if permission is granted.

Notice he is using his "roof fund"...You've gotta respect a fellow who has his priorities straight...You can always get a roof, unfired Border Specials are a bit harder to come by. Gas on it brother!
Ask forgiveness, never permission!

I drove the 30 minutes into the next county over and went well into the boonies to visit the TLA seller to see his Border Special. The guy has one helluva nice spread hidden deep in the Appalachian foothills. It is actually only a few miles from Bill Grover's boyhood home. Well, there is the gun below. Could you have turned it down? I didn't. That's a bit of oil smear on the cylinder, nothing more. It's a bit melancholy in the case colors compared to my other, but it'll do. Grover's uncle still lives in the county seat, Lancaster, KY. I know his number so I'm going to call him and ask him for his sister's phone number. Because, I heard a rumor that his sister, Grover's aunt, has a cased Border Special in her possession that may be had for a price. If she does in fact have it, and is willing to sell it, I'll let you guys in on the fun. Here's a few views of his lovely cased South Texas Army. He owns another like it, which is off to Indiana somewhere being fitted for stag grips. He hinted that when he gets the stag-gripped one back that he'll call and ask me if I want the one pictured below. I just might since I don't have one yet. While I was there, he received a phone call from some guy in Washington State. The guy had listed a wanted ad in GunsAmerica seeking a TLA #5. The fellow I was visiting had responded, and while I stood there dumbfounded he struck a deal with him over the phone! I said, "Hey, wait a minute, you didn't tell me you were selling a #5!" The buyer wants pictures first, so I offered to send him those I took shown below. The buyer also insisted that the gun be shipped from a FFL holder in Kentucky to his FFL in Washington. The seller asked me (FFL guy) if I would handle that for him. So, I took his #5 to my place. I am looking at it as I type this. I spoke with the buyer on the phone. Though I was hoping he was one of you guys, he assured me that he was not. This #5 is a beauty. I looked it over really well, and it is flawless. Don't despair just yet. Money ($2700) has not changed hands, but I suspect that it's going to. He also had a beautiful little USFA in 45LC. It actually was much prettier than the TLA Border Special that I bought from him, and cuter in that it's on a smaller frame. He won't part with it for now.
