I have been absent for a while: perhaps someone else has covered this and I missed it. Perhaps this post should be with most of my posts, in "Other Handguns": I thought I would throw it here because the piece embodies SAA spirit even though it lacks the cylinder. I wound up with one by way of trade: a bored would be Josh Randall had quickly discovered the limits of the piece and the sights as it came from the factory ran out of adjustment long before any bullet weight would hit paper at handgun ranges. He also intimated the gun would not feed 357 at all, and was reliable only with 38 specials. New rear sight, a chamber hoe scraping and a lanyard sling arrangement and the gun works great for me. From the shoulder one must be mindful of the bolt and hammer, but it shoots. I ordered a firesight front blade to match the rear I had slapped on and so far it eats whatever I feed it... neat truck gun concept.

Remember, the original Steve McQueen versions were without sights.

True... movies (and, by extension, TV shows) is magic. None of us ever bothered to question why McQueen would tote a cut down 92 with a 6 round capacity (or less ) that would be heavier and more ungainly than an SAA... nor did we question the 45-70 rounds in his cartridge loops. We just knew it looked "cool". I think the short package is dandy for fishing out of the holster behind the seat, and the overall length makes it a simple task to snake the 12" barrel out the window and pop a downed deer or hog that's been hit by a car. Might make for a nasty surprise for anyone attempting a truckjacking as well.

How controlable is it? How far can you hit a tin can or zombie with it?

The recoil is mild, even with 357 158 JHP. When shouldered, the bolt clears my face fine, but you can creep up on the action and tweak your nose with the hammer; this will require some muscle memory and technique. At 50 feet while dialing it in, I shot some great 1 ragged hole groups, but got bored with that and took to plinking. I'll test it at 25 and 50 and see what it does. What really surprised me was the way it feeds and ejects: I expected it to be length sensitive and prefer either 38s or 357s. So far, no such tendencies. I got the front sight blade, but, sadly, it's the wrong one. Have to call Brownells and get the right one. In all, I'm tickled with it.

I have one in .45 Colt. Had it for a while just have not had the time to shoot it. Guess I'll have to take it out and blow the dust off it.

Those look like a fun gun to play with. It's one of the types I haven't tried yet.

My brother up on Canada has one in 45. They're classed as rifles up there so he made a quick-attach magnetic stock for it. For compact and powerful woods carry, it's as close to a handgun as they can get up in Canada. The wierd thing is short barrel shotguns and SBR's are just regular long guns up there - can't have more than a 5 round magazine if centerfire. They sell a peep sight that replaces the bolt mounted safety and it works plenty good. They're very soft and accurate shooting even with just a cheek weld and no shoulder contact

Stock attached to a handgun is illegal in the states.

Turns it into a short barreled rifle doesn't it?

NO. Not if originally manufactured as a handgun, as these are. It is then a rifle with a barrel less than 16 inches which is an absolute no-no. Buntlines, with a barrel of at least 16 inches are an exception.

Turns it into a short barreled rifle doesn't it? As long as your state allows SBRs it's a matter of filling out the ATF Form 1, paying $200 for the tax stamp and waiting for the approval. No different that taking and AR/SIG/AK pistol and turning it into an SBR. It's been a while since I looked into the pistol to SBR thing, there might be some additional engraving required on the firearm to ID you or your friendly neighborhood C2/C7 SOT FFL as the manufacturer.
