Here is a coupe of 44's I have been playing around with. I shot half a dozen bullets into a big old wet honey locus log at two different sections. Not to shabby IMHO... Left-air cooled WW at 900 fps Right-air cooled WW at 1200fps

WOW Kinda my thoughts to on alloy. Fairly hard and tough as it didn't fragment any. What we call honey locust around here ranks right there with hedge/Osage orange. Pretty hard when green harder than wood pecker lips when dry. I don't play with any hollow points in cast so am taking SWAG at this. I am not sur you would get much if any expansion on flesh with that alloy? Jeff

Thanks for the comments! Just air cooled Wheel Weights… The Water Dropped bullets didn't expand at all. At 1200fps, they looked more like the 900fps air cooled pictured above. Ps, Elmer Kieth use to use that Lyman HP mold with 93 lead and 7 tin if my memory serves me correctly. Not to far from the WW's I am using. That Lucas tree was a fallen tree that was deteriorating. I could break a lot of it with my bear hands. I will be doing some water testing later, but this was a good media source. --------------------------------------------------------------- I didn’t make the bullets in the article, but I do cast these bullets… Here is that 475 bullet in action... www.handgunhunt.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/132748/page/2#Post132748

More thought. My Chrony indicates that my bullet is going somewhere around 1225+ when it leaves the barrel. That still yields somewhere around 1075+ at 100 yards. The 900 fps bullet was just one of the tests I wanted to do FWIW. I am still going to do some more testing, but this isn't a bad start...

Jeff Air cooled wheel weights ail about be about 12to 14 brinel or there about and will expand at velocities of 1200 FPS or more. Water quenched wheel weights will go 22 to 24 and hold there form well for maximum penetration

Nice to see. Dick sent me a few hundred of those 475 slugs. Have yet to try them though. Was hoping for an elk hunt next year when I should draw but I won't be hunting the US for a few years, at least.
