Hello all...recently in one of the gun rags I had read about using Alliant 300-MP in magnum pistol cartidges. That got me to wondering about using it in heavy 32-20 loads for my Bowen built Ruger in 32-20. So I emailed the Alliant people with this question and they said they don't know of any 32-20 specific loads for 300-MP, BUT that 300-MP is "a tiny bit slower than Win 296, if that would help me any".
So, anybody here ever try 300-MP in heavy 32-20 loads? Or have any Win 296 loads for same?

I don't think the case is big enough to get any gain from the mp300. Or another angle mp300 is to slow. Is there data for 357 magnum using mp300? If no I would guess the above would apply. If yes you could figure a percentage. The only advantage I could see mp300 in the 32-20 would be to keep my speed up and pressures down. Not that I am having or seeing pressure in my buckeye now. I am shooting a custom design 140 plain base using a compressed load of 296/h110 with no pressure signs or issues. Speed is 1550 fps over chronograph. Jeff

It shouldn't hurt. I've burned through 16 lbs of the stuff in every application I was using h110 or imr 4227 in.

MP-300 is a hair slower than W296/H110. When I tried it a while back I used 110/296 data and was pleased. I probably could've gone a grain or so higher but accuracy was decent and my chronograph was happy. Now I have shot a fair amount of H110 in my 32-20 Blackhawk. 15.0 grains with a 110 cast GC to be exact and that's close to max. I don't remember the speed offhand but it was stout from an 8" barrel. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Thanks for the feedback guys. Now I'm going to have to see if I can find some to try. I'll let you know what happens.

Did you ever give this a try? Anyone got any input on the aa3100? Jeff

AA3100 is a fairly slow rifle powder along the lines of 4831, but IME it doesn't give quite as much velocity. I think I have another pound of it in the shop.

My bad. Accurate 4100. FYI aa 3100 is out of production. After all the work I did with it in my 25-06 and they drop it. Jeff

If I could ship powder, I'd just send this pound to you.
I've seen the 4100 listed in the Lyman 49th. Seems like I read something once comparing it to WC820/H108 but never could verify that.

I have two different lots of wc820. One is the exact same over the chrono as aa9. The other mirrors 2400. Wish I had another 32 pounds of each. I was just at aa's data. Didn't figure there would be any for any of the 32's and there wasn't. I have been tempted to try 1680 but havnt. My results with the 296/110 were so good why mess with it. Jeff

That's what I keep going back to, the W296. I still have some H108. It seems to run slower than AA9 but the velocity isn't there like it is with W296/H110.

Will just ask this here as it pertains somewhat at least to original post. At least usage in modern 32-20 HV type load. Is royal scot 4100 and aa4100 one in the same? RS4100 is labeled for .410 but I find no data for it handgun or straight wall type cartridges. I was just along for the ride yesterday as a friend was in search of some large pistol primers. So I had very little cash in hand which seems to be normal as of late. I ran across a keg of new old stock H1000 for $12 a lb so had to have that. Then digging around ran across a big bunch of RS 4100. It can be had for very cheap as well. I did a search and nothing much came up. At least no hands on experiances. I may just shoot AA a question and see what they have to say. Jeff
