As I've stated previously hereabouts, I'm looking for a Colt New Frontier .44 Special. Wanted 4 3/4" barrel, they are non-existant.
Well, someone got wind of my plight and offered me a 5 1/2" .44 Special. Didn't have quite his asking price, so he asked me it I had something to trade, maybe? I had four N-Framed Smith & Wessons, two Model 29s and two Model 25s, a 6" and a 4" of each, I was wanting $600~$650. He picked two, suggesting an even trade. Done and Done! He was out of town, so had to ship through my gunsmith.
Expecting them to come in today, I whiled away the morning dropping by my gunshop. There, in the display case was a Colt New Frontier, 7 1/2" barrel, .44 Special. Older generation, like new, for $999. I said nothing but went to my bank and withdrew my money, and went back and laid out right at $1100 for the Colt. A call to my gunsmith let me know my 5 1/2" Colt was in. Had by usual Wednesday BQ and went home to show my wife not one, but two new Colts!
She was flabbergasted!
Photos to follow soon.

That is the way to do it! Proud of you. You can never own too many Colts or too many 44 Specials.

Nice!! Are you going to have the barrells cut down? No. Not yet anyway. I've got a Ruger Blackhawk 4 3/4" and a Uberti Cimarron 4 3/4", so going to shoot these as is for awhile. Bob Wright

Wow, that sounds like a nice score you got there! I would leave the barrels as is....Use the 5-1/2" for woods packing and the 7-1/2" for target shooting.

I've always been a short-barrel guy myself (shut up! ;D), but the past couple of years I have really come to appreciate a 7-1/2" tube (shut up! )

That's me. I've always been a short barrel fan but have been gravitating more and more to longer barrels. Particularly with the topless Colt replicas. For some reason though, they have to be 4¾" (or shorter) or 7½ - 8". Not real nuts about 5½ - 6½" barrels. I'm weird like that. In rifles, I 'used' to be a short barrel man but got over it. I haven't hunted with anything shorter than 24" in several years now. Which is why I'm selling that 16" Trapper .45.
