My .500 Maximum is a best grade revolver, but I don't baby it in the least. Wear and tear is a sign of use, something I take pride in.

Thanks to all you gentlemen that has replied, so far. To elaborate a little on my original post; it's kinda two fold. First I was wondering how durable the custom finishes are on the fine revolvers many of you have. I hunt with all my guns (stainless) and was seeing how many of you hunt; for hunting is a good field testing of the finish, but not quite as good as competition shooting. Second, I wanted to get some ideas on some custom features and smiths; I'm planning a custom build in the future. I've always loved the looks of a case colored receiver. Of course I want the most durable finishes I can afford, because I will hunt with it also. I was hoping there was a lot more that hunted with theirs, cause I like seeing pics of trophies and revolvers. please keep the info and pics coming. Welcome to the forum. I've enjoyed reading your posts on the HG forum. I'm still trying to connect with a revolver hunting. My guns aren't safe queens. I cast and load for em, shoot em and pack em in the woods. I'm having my first custom being built as I type. So, I'm no expert but FWIW I was talking with John Gallagher about CCH versus blue frame for a hunting/packing revolver and he said the blue will hold up better/longer and be cheaper to get refinished in the future. I've got stainless guns but wanted a blue gun this time. After years of carrying and use it will take on it's own weathered character…. kind of like the rest of us On another note. Enjoy your journey for your custom! I started out thinking I knew what I wanted and after a couple years found out what I wanted...well mostly As far as features it's all personal preference as long as you have the $$ huh?! Here's my journey for my first custom and a few other guys as well. singleactions.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=sas&action=display&thread=9605
