Bought this Remington Rand from a pawn shop in the mid 60s. Pawn shop was located on one of the main drags in Palm Springs Calif. When I asked about the gun, the owner pulled it out of the display case, inserted a magazine, racked the slide and shot a playing card tacked to a block of wood on the wall. Startled an older lady in the shop but other than an expletive that was it. Today, that would drawn a swat team response. Paid $40 which was, at the time, a fair bit of money for an 18 yr old kid. When I bought it, it had the original parkerized finish. I foolishly (but couldn't have known at the time) worked all services to a mirror finish with crocus cloth and cold blued it (don't remember with what or how). Replaced a few parts and shot it a bunch with surplus ammo. I left it with my dad when I went in the service a couple of years later. When I came back, it had a fair amount of rust resulting from exposure to swamp coolers. I took off the rust with steel wool, touched it up with crocus cloth and had a gunsmith student reblue it. It has had some use since then. The hard rubber grips have been replaced with some off of a Colt Ace (no longer in my possession). . . Paul Hey! I have one of those!

Not even close to the beauty of the pictured 1911s.... My one and only....a Springfield Armory M1911-A1. It is a nice handgun. I bought it a few years back in a local gun shop....they were overrun with 1911s the day I walked in...the gunshop owner told me the guns first owner bought it, then proceeded to have every part (other than the slide and frame) switched out with Colt parts? ? He then brought it back a few weeks later and traded it for a Colt.....go figure??? I got it out the door with a sweet trigger job by the store's gunsmith for a whopping $325.00. Not the worst deal I ever made. Bob

Heres my pretty much stock Colts. .45 SS Commander and MkIV Govt .38 Super. Both are accurate and reliable guns. Changed the rear sight on the Commander and the grips on the .38S.

Custom six inch Springfield, ALL steel internals, polished beyond belief. Also has a five inch upper with it in the case, polished also. Colt 70 series, all EGW and C&S internals. Yougly trigger has been replaced. Gun is blue, blue, blue, deep blue. Smooth ivories. Bought used Ed Brown. Seller stated 5K down it. Let's call it 20K. Sent to Birdsong, Tyler played with the skulls. Beyond smooth. Carry gun for now. Normal carry gun is a 3" Kimber that is all black from Birdsong, It's out getting all steel internals too. I'd like to see a banter about MIM versus steel.

You guys have some nice 1911s... MIM vs Steel? All my Kimbers are full of MIM stuff. I understand that DW doesn't use MIM parts. I have a DW 1911... This one a CZ DW 10mm.. Had a nasty rep for unot being reliable when I found it. Bought it right and bought a 10mm chamber finish reamer from Brownell's for about what shipping and insurance back to CZ would have been. Reamer took a shallow but nice solid cut... Gun Fixed!

I've been into guns ever since I can remember, but have NEVER shot a 1911 in 45. That just might be a sin in some of you guys books.. I did pick up this DW Razorback 10mm a few years back and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Little extra work on the front strap from our own Novak here in WV. BTW, I really like that CBOB too.

A 1952 Colt Commander. Trigger, modified thumb safety, sear, sights and action job by John Harrison. Original finish and grips. Runs like a top! I use a Del Fatti IWB. Waiting on a Barranti reproduction of a 1920-1930's OWB holster that will be awesome for field carry. Wow that's nice. I'll bet John really liked having that one in his hands for bit!
