Very nice! But be careful, I think that's one of those rifles that Diane Feinstein claims will just up and shoot people with no warning. Better send it to me so I can check it out for you.

Wow, you must have had to trade your house for that one, given the current market...

It's all about a couple people having something they don't want but wanting what the other has

Thanks guys! It's as if the rifle was in a time warp since 1968....looks like new.

That is the nicest one of those I have seen. With the exception of the scope mounting ability, I much prefer this version to the newer, all dressed up, and heavier versions being produced today.
I carried and used one much like that one in 1968 and 1969 when I was with the 101st Airborne Division in I Corps-from Hue on the east to the A Shau Valley on the west.
Of course we had a third option on the selector switch-full auto.
We were suspicious of the magazine springs and loaded no more than 17 rounds in the magazines. But yours shouldn't have to endure the harsh and humid environment ours did.
Is the chamber chromed on yours?

rWt, Thank you for your service and reply. This rifle does not have a chromed barrel.
Bob
Not chromed. It's pretty basic.

Yours is the only version that I'd ever want to own.
I find it hard to believe how heavy they have made the new ones. Of course adding scopes and mounting rails, etc. adds the poundage. Given the weight of the new ones, I'd prefer to carry an M14-more effective range and a harder hitting round.
Congrats on getting this one and thanks for the great photos!

RWt, Thanks very much for your service!. The trend is back to lightweight ARs... better reliability in the newer designs and same light weight with superior optics...

My dad has one just like it except it was produced in the early 80's. Came with the factory Colt red-dot and tote bag too. He traded a NIB Remington 1100 for it in 1983 (the AR was also NIB). I gotta say that was one of his better trades. Really nice piece Bob and I think you made a wise investment. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"
