boxhead.... the 7mm x 57mm Mauser is an all time sweet deer cartridge. I was introduced to it by my shooting partner of the early 1970's, whom built many on 1895 Chilean actions, back when those rifles in pristine condition were plentiful. Not long after I found an Husqvarna commercial Mauser 7x57 with 20-1/2" barrel, beautiful European walnut schnabel forend stock, woodchuck accurate to 200 yards. The Husqvarna Mauser featured the Model 70 ejector slot under the left locking lug. Incredible steel, probably the strongest Mauser ever made.
Back to the cartridge: the Hornady 139 Spire Point over 50.4/IMR 4350 killed deer without fuss. (Powder charge for that rifle only.) David Bradshaw
