No problem! Replacing .475 with .480 makes perfect sense!

Whitworth did you ever find out how much they weigh?

Very cool. What does Huntington charge for a conversion like this? I've got a 4 3/4" Bisley 44spl that could stand to become a .480.

Do you think he can do a 50 special on the mid frame.

Thanks Whitworth. My 44spl is already a Bisley so I wouldn't need a new grip frame. One more project to think about ;D

I'm not interested in the frame debate. You guys have a handle on that. (I happen to prefer the SBH frame with, sight ears. Prefer the feel of the Vaquero, the old Vaquero, too.
Just a couple of notes: * The .480 deserves to live. 5-shot cylinder spells resuscitation. I think failures had nothing to do with frames. * I do not care for a scalloped recoil shield on a single action. Altering the Peacemaker aesthetic should have a sound performance reason. Cannot imagine firing this cannon with thumb raised ala bullseye shooter. * Counterbored chambers, as seen here, belong on a BIG BORE to prevent the loading gate pitching forward under recoil, should the chamber under the gate be empty.
The gun looks good and the Jack Huntington grip looks like an advance which could bring more people to appreciate these guns. David Bradshaw

Do you think he can do a 50 special on the mid frame. MR. Bowen has a mid frame .50 caliber in his catalog. Quote from bowens catalog. " the .50 GI is similar but small enough to serve in the medium-frame guns with loads developing 700-800 fps with 250-300 gr. bullets." Sounds like a 50 special to me and I find it hard to believe Bowen will build something that Jack and or most other top gunsmith's would find unsafe. You can find it here under "The .50 Calibers" www.bowenclassicarms.com/catalog/ruger_single_action_big_bore_caliber_conversions.htmlP.S> I had to look up the word "resuscitation" learned a new word.

I know a Gentleman who has a 4" Vaquero that Bowen built in 50GI, he loves it! Small, light, working gun that has all sorts of thump, I think he runs a 300gr bullet at 825fps out of it. I know he has killed a couple of hogs with the gun and was pleased with the results. He is a extremely experienced handgun hunter who knows what he is doing with big bore revolvers but I think it would be all sorts of cool...
As far as why Bowen doesn't do other big bores on mid framed guns you would have to ask him I guess..

All of the gun builders have their quirks. Hamilton Bowen won't build a .475 on a Redhawk, for example. Why? I don't know.

Mr. Bowen does indeed make a .50 GI on a mid frame Ruger. Not a .50 Special, which I believe is a shortened .500 Linebaugh case, because the rim diameter is so much larger. The .50 GI is basically a .50" bullet in an overgrown .45 ACP case, dreamed up by Guncrafters Incorporated for there .50 GI 1911. Smaller rim diameter so it will fit in a five shoot mid-frame gun. Fun to shoot, too! Tim

In response to a couple posts requesting weight, will put mine on a postal scale at post it. But mine is the short barreled one, so it will be lighter than if witth a longer barrel.

Aaron, This is partially your fault! Your 480 revolver was the first I had heard of on a mid frame.
Thanks for the help in getting mine done.
