... I would love to have a revolver the equal of this. David Bradshaw Still curious which wheelgun you would pull out of the safe! Pick whatever situation would leave you only 98% sure you could make the shot. A five inch gong at 300 yards open sights? With the sun in your eyes? The same target at 800 with a scope? Which gun would you feel most comfortable with when you're only Mostly sure of the shot.

So a freind says "Hey i bet you can't hit this 12" round gong at 100, 150 or 200 yards with a handgun." You say, " Oh yes i can!" What gun do you reach into your safe and pull out? How often do you expect to hit it? If you pick a single shot, you have to also pick a semi-auto or revolver(the single shots are cheating!). I had to throw in 150 and 200 because 100 yards isn't long distance for some handgunners. Just take your pick. Out to 100 yards, right now, i'd probably grab my Ruger .45 Bisley Old Vaquero. Beyond that, I'd grab the Bisley Hunter .44, mostly because it has a scope. At 100 yards, i'd like to not miss, but i'd take 50%. Beyond that, a hit or two out of six would be allright for now. I havn't shot longer ranges in quite a while. That's upsetting to me! Whacha'll got? *** HandgunFirst of all, the title of your post begs for a single shot pistol. Now that we've taken the single shots off the table, that leaves revolvers and automatics. Since the jam-a-matic Auto Mag is defunct, and Jon Powers' .44 Magmatic never reached production, a good revolver will make short work of the remaining automatics. Any number of revolvers qualify, along with a variety of cartridges. One quality unites revolvers in contention: ACCURACY. CartridgeAs for selecting a cartridge, any magnum has it over any Special. Though Special and Magnum may produce identical accuracy, the magnum shoots flatter ("flat" being a relative term in revolver ballistics). BulletMust not give a damn about supersonic launch, nor going transonic in descent. In other words, must maintain accuracy the length of its short life. MarksmanshipAlthough the shooter is not in consideration, permit me to share a constitutional principle: I try to fire each shot as though it's the only one I have. Therefore, there is no such thing as an easy shot. As for naming a revolver, I might do worse than ear the hammer on my little Freedom Arms Casull Model 83 .44 Magnum, to which Jim Stroh affixed a Shilen barrel. David Bradshaw

It would have to be a damn small wager to get me shooting over 50 yards but for a cold beer I'd put my bet on the 44 Redhawk over the Uberti 357 just because I've fired it more and have some pretty good loads for it. The 357 shows promise just need some more trigger time with it.

David Bradshaw I liked that whole post. I was curious if you'd reach for a well used silhouette gun, that Ruger bisley, or the M83 which you've mentioned before. I spent the last year shooting for speed, but last weekend dabbling in long range accuracy. Both have fun moments!

When i am in practice i can do it 12 of 12 times in a pie plate at 100 with my 10.5" Max and a solid rest. But it''s been a few months since i shot the Max.
I knocked the 12" gong around the other day (3 out of 5 shots) with my OM 4 5/8" 357 mag too. Kinda surprised myself.

I have a number of guns that will do it, but if I have to rely one just one it would be a Freedom Arms 654 .41 Magnum with a 6" barrel and David Clements Long Range front sight blade... 5.5" group at 100... 780 yards on a 3' target... Bob

In Mr. Bradshaw's post above he reminded me of a semi that will do the job... (notice the ejected brass at the right lower corner of the milk crate) 50 yards... If you do the math, shooting at a 3' target at 800 yards is the same as shooting at a 1" square at 25. So I think the Desert Eagle will come close to doing the job... Bob

While I've done more 100 yard plus shooting with the 44 Mag than any other I now haven't any so my second most long shot sixgun is a simple Ruger Blackhawk. This is a Bisley converted to a standard Blackhawk. BTW it's a 357.
