I have a 10 1/2" Ruger 44 maggie that is scary accurate at long range, well beyond 200 yds. Another would be my Alan Harton 480 or a 10 1/" 357 Maximum. It could also be an old 3 screw 30 carbine...but that thing is loud, even the rock chucks cover their ears when that thing shows up! I watched Ken O'Neill whack rock chucks & he was way over 90%, almost over 100% with a near double! I'd hate to bet against Zeus's 454 or Callshots FA 41 maggie!

I have several I could use out to 200 yds effectively IF,,,,,,,,, I do my part. That was the point of this thread. Most shooters have guns capable of this level of accuracy, but which one do you know and trust enough to try it on command. Would you be willing to "bet money" or just pride on a particular gun. Pretty much everybody with an T/C could connect after a few shots. This thread was about which gun does the individual know well enough to say "yeah, i can hit that!"

Managed inadvertently to deface with underlines much of my above text. Meant to show via sight dope the drop of a revolver, as compared with a bottleneck single shot. The XP-100 in 7mm/308x1-3/4" takes just ONE-click of the Micro sight to go from 50 meters to 200 meters.
Whereas the Ruger .44 Mag with 10-1/2" and Rugers bargain basement copy of the Micro requires 14-clicks to carry it slug from 50 meters to 200 meters.
Both sights have relatively coarse 8-click per rev adjustments.

Gladdens my heart to hear members of the forum put short barrel revolvers into the distance game. David Bradshaw

My 4-5/8" OM .357 Blackhawk. Don't get to shoot it at long range much any more, but 30 years ago, it was responsible for a lot of long range jack rabbits and coyotes. That 140 gr Speer JHP, pushed by a max charge of H110 seemed to shoot plenty flat!

Axehandle knows that Sako .222 belongs at my house and that he only has temporary custody. It will be mine...

1. Les Baer premier II 1.5 inch just because I've pulled stupid shots off with it impressing friends. 2. Eabco 97D falling block pistol in 6.5BRM I've hit clay pigeons at 400 yards with it. 3. Any of my other pistols chambered in .429 or bigger.

Probably a cheat, but I'd go with my T/C Contender in .222 Remington. Has a nice Leopold scope and with a sandbag, I was pretty mean with it as a kid

Note to self: Do not bet against cholla.
I was wondering how many would pick 44spc, since it's got a lot of fans around here. Very few have. Thanks for (re)demonstrating that you don't need a magnum to reach out. (I think some Keith fellow did the same thing a while ago)

Anybody here like statistics? After Four pages, here's a rough count of the responses. Very few people picked only one gun, so i had to pick the first gun they typed, even if they said "either, or". Also, Ruger brand includes customs built on Ruger frames.
By Brand: Ruger: 14 FA: 8 S&W: 6 DW: 4 Autos: 3 BFR: 1 Colt: 1 Uberti: 1
The autos included various 1911's.
By Caliber! 22: 2 9x23: 1 38spc: 1 357M: 7 357Mx: 1 375At: 1 41M: 3 44spc: 3 44M: 7 45A: 2 45C: 2 454C: 6 475: 1 500L: 1
Or, arranged differently: 44Mag 7 357Mag 7 454Cas 6 44spc 3 41Mag 3
So, what have we learned so far? Common calibers are more common? Power matters? Honestly, one of the first thing that jumped out was only a single BFR! I also wouldn't have expected Ruger to be that far ahead of S&W. I wonder how much more common FA's are vs BFR's. FA made a pretty strong showing here. As did 454Cas, which appeared in a couple rugers. The FA's were not all 454.
Had I included people's back-up choices, 480Ruger would have made a strong showing. Maybe if i get bored later I'll go back thru all this again and include everything mentioned.
