I live in sandpoint. Way up north. But we might end up moving there. I've been checking out rentals and they seem realy high. Is there a better place to search? I don't want to live right in town, but within 10 miles. I'm looking for a 3 bedroom with a garage/ shop. Also, do you know much about Walla walla Foundry?

I know a little about the foundry, seems to be a profitable, well run venture. They make church bells in addition to artwork. Might also be casting commercial fixtures if I recall correctly.
Rents do tend to be a bit higher hereabouts, for some pretty basic reasons. First, and probably most important, there are three colleges in the area, Walla Walla University, Whitman College, and WW Community College. Student rentals tend to drive up the real estate.
Also, there are over 80 wineries in Walla Walla, with more in the surrounding area. Lots and LOTS of folks come here for wine tasting tours, first crush, etc. They stay at B&Bs, hotels, and the like. This also raises property values and as a result, rents.
Finally, if I haven't bored you enough already, there is a strong economy in town. Between the three colleges, three hospitals, state prison, and the Army Corp of Engineers based here, we are doing better then the rest of the state. Not great, but better. Toss in the fact that there are more millionaires per capita here than in any other city in Washington and you have a recipe for higher rents and home prices. Lots of wheat farmers and "horse people" living here, both games take $$.
You would do better rent wise in Milton-Freewater, OR, just across the state line (10 miles away), or maybe Touchet or Waitsburg. Like kings6 wrote above, PM me for more info and my phone number.
BTW, I have a big house for rent right now. Won't discuss prices on the board, as it might be more (or less) then you are looking for. Let me know......

Have good friends who live there. They used to own the John Deere dealership in Walla Walla.

We used to visit my aunt when she lived in College Place, WA. I imagine the rents would be pretty hight there, too. But it seemed like a real nice town.

College Place is right next door to Walla Walla, of course. Prices there seem about the same as WW, maybe a few dollars less, but not so you would really notice.
Most folks probably don't know this, but College Place is almost entirely Seventh Day Adventist. We are not SDA, but have plenty of friends who are. Hate to make generalizations, especially about religion, but our experience has been that SDA folk are pretty nice, open and sharing.
We send our boy to an SDA school in CP, which has a great reputation. He is a in a first/second grade combination class and reading with the top level kids amongst the 2nd graders (he is a first grader), so we are well pleased with his progress. They are grounding him in Christian principles, albeit from a SDA standpoint, but we simply discuss the differences from our faith (Russian/Greek Orthodox) here at home in a non-biased fashion. It seems to work. No issues yet, knock on wood.
One thing I will say about the area, it is a tight knit community. After moving here four years ago most people learning we were new to the area greeted us with "Welcome to Walla Walla". It happened sooo frequently we began to wonder if it was taught in school! It is also one of the few places I have lived or visited (I have been fifteen countries) where you can be pretty much assured that folks waiting to cross a street next to you will strike up a conversation.
We are close friends with our family doctor, our pediatrician, our chiropractor, our tax man, etc, etc. Not unusual for a small town of course, but having moved here from a large urban area where the population was greater than the entire state of Washington, it is a refreshing change.
I grew up in small towns, and would gladly live in small towns the rest of my life. This is undoubtedly one of the nicest.......

My aunt and her family, including her late husband, were/are SDA. She worked as a xray tech at the hospital for decades. My uncle had heart issues so stayed home and took care of the house and kids. She was my very favorite aunt, among many.
We used to go on walks in CP and it was very nice, almost picture perfect of small town America. As I recall, they were just a few blocks from the college there.

You do realize that Walla Walla is in Walla Walla County, right? So I actually live in Walla Walla Walla Walla. ;D
