I have a Ruger FT in 44 Special that I would like an octagon barrel installed on. Who would you recommend? I already spoke with Dave Clements, he won't do it. Gallagher is not an option either. Thanks.

If David or John won't/can't do it then I'd check with Alan Harton next.

I'm pretty sure Jack Huntington will do it.

As far as I know Huntington is the only one who will do an octagonal barrel on the NM flattop mid-frame guns.

Just got off of the phone with Jack, and he will most certainly do it and the cost is $400.00 complete.

Magman, can you expand on why Dave or Gallagher won't do it. Time, safety etc?

Dave said he couldn't/wouldn't do it. No explanation given.
Galagher is a personal choice not to use.

Here's what Bowen says about the NM flat top midsize 357 frame and octagon when I asked him about octagon on a large frame NM flat top....
"Regrettably, I have not done an octagonal barrel installation on a new .44 Flat Top and do not have one in the building at the moment to check with an octagonal barrel. I do know that the one .357 I tried to fit with one was so marginal that I swore I'd never try it again. As you probably know, the angle described by the vertical centerline of the receiver and a line through the barrel center axis and tube boss axis is about 135 degs. which is exactly where it should be to be perpedicular to the lower angled flat on an octagonal barrel. The problem, with the .357 anyway, is that the ejector tube boss hole in the receiver face is probably on an angle close to 120--130 degs., leaving the tube quite eccentric or off-set to the barrel flat. If you can even get the tube to lay on the flat the result is somewhat unsightly. I would wish to suspend judgement until I can lay hands on a .44 FT recevier."

I wouldnt do it. It can be done, but not quite as gracefully as on say an OM. The option is to use a Clements ribbed Smith and Wesson style barrel.

Just got a call from Mr. Huntington. My gun is completed and awaiting my payment. The MO will go out on Wednesday. I can't wait to see this. I can't believe the price he charged me for this, I had to ask twice before I got it.
