Early 2nt generation Colt. Started life as a .38 until Sheriff Jim Wilson had it converted to a .45 Colt. Just wondering what that conversion would cost today?? Any guess? Off the top of my head....on top of the cost of the base gun, a 2nd Gen barrel and cylinder will run you about $500 retail, though you might find them cheaper. Add in a few hundred bucks to have a smith swap them out - assuming no major action work is involved. Would be more to get a really good smith to do it and tune everything up the way it should be. Nice, medallioned ivories will set you back $500-$600 minimum. You can sneak up on early 2nd Gen .38 Specials for $1100-$1300 from time to time. So, with enough patience, you could have a gun like that one for somewhere between $2500 and $3000, unless you get lucky on one or more of the components.

As Jeff often says to me, "You can't pay too much - just too SOON." I often agree with that sentiment, however I don't think that really applies here. SAA values have been flat for some time based on my observations.

That one looks like it's in good shape. Is that too much money? Well a new one is going to go for at least $1400 depending on which shop you find one in. I'm not an expert, but if I wanted one, I wouldn't think that was too much. AND they aren't making 1st or 2nd Gen. Colts anymore. I think I'd bid the starting bid & see what happens. Frank
