I go back and forth on the 480 option all the time. I've even called Huntington and scoured the net for the right price on a FA83 475 (I love my lil 97). I love that the 480 seems to be the right caliber for all NA Big Game without needing the punishing recoil of the 475's and up. Next year Jack will get one of my Bisleys to convert. I haven't finalized the stainless vs blued decision yet, but it will definitely be a 480.
Oh. And best of luck on your elk hunt. I can't wait to read about it.
Long live the 480.

There is VERY little difference in the .480 and .475. It's not like you're dropping from a magnum to a special, as they are both loaded to very high pressures and have similar case capacity and case length. They are probably the two closest revolver rounds as far as power goes, unless you count the .500 twins, JRH and WE.
With the right boolit nose length, the .480 can run neck and neck with the .475
But I think the .475 is the better choice because you hang less lead out of the case to get the same effect.

OK, here's the other photo's I promised. Can anyone guess what the bullets are laying on? The winner gets some cast bullets of their choice! Thats a 44 magnum round next to the 480 for comparison. Dick

The Bisley trigger never bothered me until I pulled the trigger on a heavy load of 475 Linebaugh. When it happens it gets your pointer finger's attention immediately, believe me.

I enjoy my .480 even though its of the SRH variety. I'd like to have a custom 5 shot SA in .480. Say a custom Bisley Hunter with a 7 1/2" barrel Nice gun Dick, hope you HAMMER an elk with that nice gun. What weight boolits does it like the best? I'm casting/shooting a 420gr LFn from and Accurate mold.

Anybody can see that it is one of those desert stingrays that we keep running into here. Very rare.

I like them banded barrels ! Look like they mean business to me. Ya know they have fleece lined Crocs for cooler weather. Just don't think they work well with crampons,or fit in the snowshoe bindings well. stevemb

You could sip coffee from that too if you forgot a mug...now that is a hollow point!
I'm guessing something from the PIG family donated that "scalp"
