I know this topic is subjective so interpretation is totally up to the individual. What is your purpose in life? What motivates you to be the best person you can be? I am purposely leaving out my own philosophy and convictions because I am at a point in my life where I need the wisdom of men who aren't tossed about like a row boat on the sea. If today, by some unforeseen tragedy, everything and everyone you love was taken from you, what would motivate you to keep going? If this has happened to you, what has kept you moving in a positive direction? Thank you to all those that take the time to respond. -Paul-

The bible. I have seen and experienced things in my life that the bible is the only explanation for. Lately I keep reading Matthew, mark, Luke and john. The things Jesus said and did are amazing if you think about them.

Yup serialsolver ! Must be 6-7 Bibles around here. Two are mine personally. Not that the number owned is any indication of state of grace ! Lots, LOTS of room for improvement here ! Effort is being made, progress though minute, is hopefully noted. stevemb

If it weren't for the knowledge that no matter how bad I am or how bad things can get that I'm still going to sit at the foot of God someday, I'd be the man in the rowboat tossed about by the sea. Until then, I will bust my ass every day to provide for my family. Paul, at this point you've got four checks in the God box so I'll ask you what drives you.

+1 on Jesus... Live every day in such a way that makes everyone want what I have. I figure at this point my role is to have an effect on someone who will really make a difference.

What motivates me? Philippians 4:13. My goal, to know and show the kind of love described in 1Corinthians chapter 13.

Mine is the verse I reference on the Ruger Forum. It is Deut. 10: 12-13. And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
I recently heard a message about the different types of worship that people express themselves through. One of the types was a faith worship driven by God's majesty. Another was one driven by a student heart. The one that I know applies to me is the activist believer. I have no skills as a joyful sound worshiper nor am I a theologian by any stretch of the imagination but God has blessed me with a skill set, life experiences and a heart to see physical needs in others and a need to serve. Like my wife says, give me a job to do for others and I'll travel to the ends of the earth to do it. Ask me to go on vacation to sight see and it won't happen.

There are some men who would chose to lose sleep, money, time with family in order to do good for others. Though these works "are like filfthy rags", some of those men are here on this sight and I appreciate reading your plights.

Rich Mullins and the Apostles Creed sums it up for me with this song...
Creed Rich Mullins
2 Peter 1:15-21 1 Peter 3:8-4:11
I believe in God the Father Almighty Maker of Heaven and Maker of Earth And in Jesus Christ His only begotten Son, our Lord He was conceived by the Holy Spirit Born of the Virgin Mary Suffered under Pontius Pilate He was crucified and dead and buried
Chorus: And I believe what I believe Is what makes me what I am I did not make it, no it is making me It is the very truth of God and not The invention of any man
I believe that He who suffered Was Crucified, buried and dead He descended into Hell and On the third day he rose again He ascended into Heaven where He sits at Gods mighty right hand I believe that He’s returning to Judge the quick and the dead Of the sons of men
Chorus-
I believe in God the Father almighty Maker of Heaven and Maker of Earth And in Jesus Christ His only begotten Son, Our Lord I believe in the Holy Spirit One Holy Church, the communion of Saints, The forgiveness of sins I believe in the resurrection I believe in a life that never ends and
I believe what I believeIs what makes me what I am I did not make it, no it is making me It is the very truth of God and not The invention of any man

If today, by some unforeseen tragedy, everything and everyone you love was taken from you, what would motivate you to keep going? If this has happened to you, what has kept you moving in a positive direction? Thank you to all those that take the time to respond. -Paul- The way I look at it is if everything and everyone I love is "taken" from me, well that means I am passed on... Now if, god forbid, my loved ones pass on before me, they are not taken from me, they will always be with me... they are the reason I am the man I am, and they will always be the reason I keep moving in a positive direction. So for me it is and always will be my family, forever. Nathan

Thank you all...a thread I needed to read. I've been a bit "edgy" (a nice way to confess I'm messed in the head) and the unanimity of your words just kicked me in the butt.
Who expects to find such wisdom on a gun forum? I guess I do (now). Doors open where none are seen.
