I was wondering who makes a good one. I really like the nylon that Bianchi use to make but now it has the strap that goes around your waist. I do not want one with a strap that goes around the waist.

I know Von, and you will never meet a nicer guy!!. The holster is called the WY "Combination"..because it can be work around your waist or as the bandolero.
I have handled the holster but never really tried it...so I have a question.
The guns seem to ride real high in the pictures of them and no support at the trigger guard area. Guns seem to be held in by the retention strap?? If the retention strap comes un-snaped, will your gun be able to fall grip forward and out of the holster??
Thanks

No I just put my nimrod in it and you have to hold it nearly upside down for it to come out the frame will slide down an inch or so but it has to be pulled up to get out. I don't think you would carry it without the strap on though
It's nice easy on and off but in my experience wearing it chasing elk a belt holster is much less tiring

If you are looking at carrying a scoped gun then the Wyoming Combo Holster is a great rig. I have one for my SBHH with an UltraDot on top and it makes carrying that behemoth quite easy. Spent many many days and miles with that holster on and it is quite nice. Regarding the strap, you definitely want to keep the strap on when carrying it, however there is no way in heck that it will fall out if you are standing. If you happen to bend over and the gun gets more horizontal then it may have a tendancy to slide out. That being said, where the strap is and the way it is configured I have never had it come loose or get pulled loose. The tag end tucks under your arm pretty well and is shielded by your body from getting hung up.
I do agree with momatt in that if your gun is of a smaller profile then a belt holster might be a a better fit.
IMHO the belt style rigs start to get cumbersome when your gun is beyond the size of a 5 1/2" Redhawk.

I like Ringler leather and have been tempted by the Wyo Combo but have held back as it seems it would weigh a bunch itself. Any comments on this?

I don't think its a heavy rig. The leather is split, thick enough to be sturdy but its not like wearing a saddle by any means.

I have a WY Combo for my scoped Bisley Hunter. Excellent rig. It is not heavy, in fact I'm surprised at how light it is. I dealt with Von through email. Emailed him pics, mailed him a tracing and measurements of the gun/scope and got back a custom make/fit holster. Blew me away.
I've used it a few years hiking, atving and the guns stays put. But, with the design you don't knock yourself in the chin when drawing, the gun can roll forward.
I really like being able to put it around the waist also. I did a "first impressions" write up a few years ago over at handgun hunt forums but the picture links are broken. Maybe I'll redo it and post it here in the gallery.

I may have to give one of Von's a go. Thanks for the comments and write up. I have a couple of his Linebaugh holsters and a couple of belts as well. Top quality stuff for sure.
