earlier this year, i had set intentions on taking my seville out on opening morning morning of deer season. it came back from Harton's a few months ago for a tune up and a taller patridge front sight. i was set to blast the first shootable deer to come through with one of my favorites. then about three weeks ago, i lucked into an old model 44 magnum flattop. the gun had been converted, but the original parts were still with the gun. the proper old model parts were put back in the gun as soon as i got home with it. the grip frame had been semi rounded off as well and the missing metal had been painted or some other light finish applied. thanks to some members here, i was able to obtain a proper uncut xr3 grip frame for the revolver. this week i decided that even though it is apparently ineffective for whitetails, i would be taking this old jewel out on opening morning with keith bullets at whatever velocity the gun an i found to be agreeable. this morning, John Gallagher called about something else and told me that he hadnt forgotten my bisley 45 colt that he had and that he was about to get started on it. sounds like it may make it back in time for gun season opener. now i cant decide which to take for opening morning. life was so much simpler when my only deer gun was my winchester 94 30-30. lets hear some opinions on what i should take opening morning.

Take all 3 out shooting. Whichever one you shoot most accurately is the one to take.

Get proficient with all three, then get three tags -- don't know how many deer you can shoot in your neck of the woods every season, but in some places you can get a buck and a couple of antlerless deer. I will often use different handguns for multiple animals -- diversity in action! ;D

three does and a buck a day. the limit is not the problem. opening morning is always a special event with three special guns, i cant decide which i will take out first. we can kill a pile of deer which is handy for experiments.

Hard to help without seeing pictures and knowing what caliber the Seville is chambered in.Its been a few years since I killed a deer with a 44 but from what I read the 44 will no longer kill a deer as its to light and only suitable for small rodents (lol). I agree with getting a couple doe tags and using them all but in the absence of that I'd have to vote for the Bisley as i do love that grip. Good luck with whatever you chose and let us know how you make out.

The flat top, go with the experienced gun! ;D Besides, I want to see pictures of where that XR-3 grip frame ended up!

I gave a squirrel a nasty bruise with my 44 mag last winter. He really chewed me out for that, then took the gun away from me, and bent it into a pretzel, just like on TV. I fled in terror...

at the moment, i am taking the flattop out on opening morning. i was shooting as good with it as i do my seville in 44 magnum. over the weekend, dad and i got out and shot our flattops together and they both shoot good, his maybe a little better.

I say we blindfold flexjr then hand him a stick. Since the .44 Magnum is no longer effective I am going to have to apoligize to all the deer I have killed with .44 Specials. Apparently we processed them while they were still alive. Scary stuff.... If he takes his flat top I may take mine too. This all depends on my knee recovering enough to climb into a tree stand. We can kill 300 antlerless deer a year here and 3 bucks per year. reflex264
