Thanks for the kind words guys. We're having a lot of fun with this project. Even dad is starting to get into it (his original thought was "So why don't we just convert a Ruger to 5-shot 45 again?"). He's not much on cloning things but even he knows the importance of Ross' work with that Seville. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Lee has got that rite- Ross was already a known writer, Linebaugh a respected gunmaker but that gun and the cape buffalo sent them both to a higher level and showed what the grand old .45 Colt could be at the same time when many were dreaming of .454s and Supermags

. I like the Devo too. Brings back memories of working the door at a punk bar in the 80's. "I say whip it, whip it good". Ya, well the station my dad listens to had and "all 80's Labor Day". Kinda made for a long afternoon. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time" Oh the humanity ;D! I wish we had something local that played a bit more recent rock than the 60's to 80's. Give me a bit of grunge, alternative, and metal and I'd be in heaven while riding all over for work all day.

More updates... Whit gave me the No. 1 sight that Jack Huntington donated to the project: I took one look at it and knew it would be too big. Turns out the i.d. is 0.830” and our barrel will be held to stock 0.778”. The ramp portion is also going to need a lot of work to match Ross’. So dad got creative. He decided to make our own band from round stock and mate it to the ramp. The latter will be separated using a wheel cutter. I’m not a fan of silver solder either so the ramp will be drilled with two set holes. These’ll be located under the blade insert that we’ll also make from scratch. The band and the barrel will then be drilled and tapped at these locations. Thus the band and ramp assembly will be separate pieces that screw into the barrel. The sight blade will be set screwed from the front. It’ll look identical to Ross’ but will be removable and more securely fastened. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

We then moved to the barrel blank. Both ends were trued and held between centers: The blank diameter was 1.25” so it took some lathing: -Lee www.singleactions.com“Building carpal tunnel one round at a time”

Someone PM'd me about a couple of our shop photos so here you go. The top one is a signed poster of the old S&S Drag Racing team (gasser legends from the 1960s). The bottom is an autographed photo of Candy Clark (American Graffiti). I hope it's OK to post this here. Maybe I should've put it in the Hi-Jack thread -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

The barrel band was made from 1.0” round stock: The outside was turned to 0.890” and bored to 0.773”. We purposely went under by 0.005” so we can match it to the barrel via honing. -Lee www.singleactions.com“Building carpal tunnel one round at a time”

We went back-and-forth yesterday between the band and the barrel. The blank was then cut to 6.0", even though the final length will be 5.5". You always want a little extra to work with. We'll face each end once we fit it to the gun (setting the gap, cutting the cone, and crowning). Smoothing on a belt sander: -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Finishing off the barrel band: A boring bar was employed to cut the final spec: Barrel and band in the rough: Note - the band is cut a little long. Final length will be around 0.80". -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"
