I wrote in the "Clean Your Pocket Pistols" thread about a S&W Model 36 I bought about 40 years ago as a carry piece. I carried this one, mostly in a hip pocket without a holster, through thick and thin for about 30 years. I have fallen in Whitewater Creek several times with it in my pocket while trying to prime an irrigation pump, have sat on the Atlanta Farmers Market for three or four days without a change of clothes, have moved irrigation pipe in 100 degree, 80% humidity weather, and even carried it as a backup in a short law enforcement career. I didn't always have time to clean it up after it got wet, but I usually did find time to douse it down good with WD-40. Three or four times a year I would spray something like "pBlaster" in all the orifices until it dripped out clean. The day I bought it, I took it to a machine shop where we ground the hammer spur off. I mean with the hammer still in the gun. I bought the Tyler t-grip the day I bought the gun. I carry it infrequently now, but keep it in a "secret place" loaded with Buffalo Bore 158 grain +P hollow points. I shoot it about twice a year, just 'cause. ;D I take the side plate off about every 2nd year, clean the inside good, and soak the whole thing in diesel fuel. It is amazing how clean the inside is each time I take it apart.
I drew the gun once with intent to use it on a human target. Didn't have to, and I'm glad. I shot a bunch of rattlesnakes over the years, one in the city limits of Columbus, Georgia. The little short-gun has provided me with an adult lifetime of peace of mind.
I think I'll keep it another year or two.
