Not to plug another forum but......
You may want to go to Rugerforum.net (if you haven't already), make the oblicatory 10 posts and pick up the "IBOK" for your gun. I'm not sure if it covers throat reaming in the GP-100 IBOK but I know the new model Blackhawk does. The "IBOK"s are the Iowegan Book of Knowledge for specific Ruger models and are very well written and give excellent instructions for resolving issues with Rugers. Iowegan is the user name of the Rugerforum.net forum member and a retired gunsmith who wrote the IBOKs.
I follow that forum also and have seen Iowegan challenged a few times but in every case he as aquitted himself admirably. He, quite simply, knows his stuff (NOT to say members here don't).
Smite away if you must.....

Wouldn't smite even if I knew how. I have a copy of the IBOK,don't recall any mention of cylinder throats. I'll have to look it up. I'm a member at Ruger forum, but haven't posted there.

I'd certainly get a "piloted reamer" if it was MY Ruger! Any other technique sounds "less than ideal".
JMHO,

I'm with you on this one Carl, remember, tools pay for themselves in a short time, especially after your buddies learn you can make their guns shoot better
