I just looked at the gentleman's thread under the single action category with the GB link to a Ruger short barreled .44. My question is, does the unfluted cylinder give an advantage versus a fluted cylinder? That revolver appeals to me but it would appeal to me on a greater level if the cylinder was fluted. Just wondering.

It is just looks. I get all excited about revolvers with un-fluted cylinders. I only own one fluted SA. I wish it was unfluted! My DA's are all fluted, but that's only because they don't make many unfluted DAs.
The un-fluted cylinder adds a little weight for recoil control, but other than that, no difference.
Some might argue that they add a tiny bit of strength to the cylinder. I would not be one to argue that.

I too am a fan of fluted cylinders. I had the cylinder fluted when I had this Super Blackhawk reworked.

BEAUTIFUL! Never heard of El Dorado Arms, are they still in business? Sure is a very unique piece. Was the LAREDO a package gun?

Now I want an El Dorado or Seville! Your's looks like the one they talked about in the write up that got the SS grip frame from the factory in Arizona when they ran out of blued grip frames... if that is the case you have a very RARE and UNIQUE gun!

I read a little over half the article and I have to say it's a fantastic article! But, There seemed to be a couple of things not covered.... or maybe I didn't read far enough into the article. I plan to go back and read it start to finish. You see I am a big fan of single actions. About the things that may have not been covered........................ Well there is this And This And no offence Mr. Lee, but you stated that "No user manuals were ever included" Now you know that's not true, how could you say that to these nice folks? An extensive user manual was included!...I have one! Here it is All one pages of it,....LOL But seriously Mr. Lee, you said these units were costing about a weeks pay. Now you know that's not true!, again, how could you mislead these good folks here? Well, let me see, where did I .... ah, here it is... See? just $86.50! You have no idea how many of these I bought, heck I used to use a 4 5/8" for a doorstop! So you see you can't believe everything you read, even from an expert like MR. Lee...... And so,..... What's that Mr. Lee?..... move that white paper out of the way, well I am pretty busy right now,.. hey now look at the time, I better,...... Ok Mr. Lee,...I'll move it. [/img] LOL! Ok, you got me, LOL, there were well over a ton of these that were welded up as part of a court order because of the lawsuit by Ruger based on the "Transfer Bar" being too similar to Rugers patented system. Or so I was told back in 1987 - 1988 when these were being sold basically "by the pound" as scrap. Here are some more pictures Yes that's an 18" ruler not a 12" Oh yes, remember to read the manual, all one page of it,..LOL Yes,yes, we know read the very complex manual, cover to cover,...LOL Box Label Ok, now that we have had a good laugh I request that the mods leave this up for long enough for every to get a chuckle and then delete this post. It was just meant to give the members something to laugh at. Thanks James

They look really good on that blued revolver! What kind of wood is that? Sorry I missed this earlier. Alan Harton did the metal and wood work. The grips are walnut with a fair amount of figure that you will only see when it is in your hand.

James....why don't you re-read the article and get your facts straight. The "no service" manual was related to United Sporting Arms and the Seville model. Not the U.S. Arms Abilene. Also, the MSRPs I quoted were from original price sheets I've obtained (Sig Himmelmann & Forrest Smith). That said, I also have all of Harvey Kahn's dealer sets from 1976 - 1979 and the retail prices were $150 and up. What you've shown above is a sale flyer. As for the 10.5" Silhouette model you've pictured, I did mention those (and why is the 18" of total length relevant? I've always cited barrel length). So how did I miss that? And btw, all of the Abilenes you've shown above are Mossberg/AIG (New Haven, CT). The Riverhead Abilenes are a whole other story. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

And just for illustration purposes James, here's an original price sheet form 1974. As you can see, the MSRPs are $140 and up: Even the dealer prices are north of $100. Again, what you listed is a sales special. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Just poking some fun Lee!
Which is what I said, "twice", the post wasn't meant to be "accurate", it was a joke post.
And that was not a dealer special, Those are "WELDED UP UNITS" -"Non Guns"
It says so right there in the ad.
They are wall hangers.
From now on I'll keep it technical, easy for me, this is my 38th year in the trade as a precision machinist & toolmaker, well over 20 as a gunsmith and firearm manufacturer.
I've owned my own precision grinding and machine shop since 1984.
Dry and technical, I have "tons" of that.

James....sorry for the confusion. After re-reading your post I saw the humor in it. Thanks for the photos. Also, I'm writing a book on the history of Sevilles, El Dorados, and Abilenes. Do you have any background on these welded units? Who did the work and where were they offered? If you're interested, I'd like to use some photos of these guns in my upcoming book. Drop me a line at lee@singleactions.com if you'd like to contribute. Take care, -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Take care, -Lee Hello Lee, I apologise for just jumping in and trying to get a few laughs, but if you knew me you would know I am always cracking jokes and trying to get people to laugh. The history of firearms is serious business and I should have done a better job of controlling myself. I got excited reading your excellent article and ran over to the safe and pulled out that Abilene, with the paper work, and started posting. Sorry about that. I propped up that 18" ruler so members could get a grasp of just what one of these units represents in overall length. You and I have handled and fired these units, but most people have never seen one up close. A pack of cigarettes or a dollar bill is sort of ok, but that ruler really puts things into prospective. Contribute to your book? Sure, I'll send you an email. Take Care James
