Well, the check and the gun are in the mail. I sent the base gun off to Jack Huntington this morning. What I sent was an OM Bisley Vaquero in 44 mag. It's a "parts gun" that I bought off of the ruger forum from a guy in North Dakota. What I have asked to have done is a conversion to .500 JRH. Round 5 1/2" barrel with a barrel band. Front site capable of changing out the blades, different heights for different loads and such. Jack suggested a model 60 smith rear sight, sounds good to this novice. Frame and hammer color case. I asked for the grip frame to be altered for some extra knuckle room and some new grips to fit the new contoured grip frame. Now the waiting begins. Thanks to all of you guys on this site for the inspiring pictures and the guidance. Pictures to follow in 7 to 9 months. ;D

Time will creep... Guns exactly like you are having built will become available at dirt cheap prices. Nothing you can do about it. Just the nature of the beast. Best thing to do is buy every dang one of them you can. That way you won't be able to wish that you had..

Congrats there buckheart! I'm right behind you with my first custom as well. I've got the NM flattop 44 and the Bisley parts and my Gallagher .510 5.5" octagon barrel should be here any day. I think I'm leaning towards Huntington to do the build with his grip frame mod as well. One things for sure...axehandle won't be adding mine to his collection It'll be a keeper. Groo... I fear you are right.... I'm already thinking about my next one Just a tuned up FA97 45 Colt though...

Yes groo I have been stricken and doomed for at least the past 35 years. In particular the past I would say 10 years has been a time of great accumulation. And as Axe teaches I have done my best to have as few regrets as possible. Heck I have a few guns I haven't shot in maybe 10 years. No plans to sell them off either. Box- thinking the wood will be something dark. Dark walnut maybe. Pretty basic on that. Vaguely remembering a while back some one had objections about fluted cylinders on a five shot because of where the flutes ran into the cylinder notches. Any one have pictures of that scenario ?

Not a strength issue as Jack Huntington would have let me know about that. More of an aesthetic thing. To me this endeavor is as much about aesthetics as function. If it was purely function I think I might go stainless or hard chrome brushed finish.

So I spoke to Jack Huntington about the gun I sent out to him in the beginning of May. He says they have the grip frame modified, stocks made and barrel set aside for it. He was making cylinders when I called and had to step away from the lathe to answer the phone. He is thinking I may have the completed piece in my hands in about 2 months barring any, as he put it, "voodoo". I may actually have this one in time to work up some loads and hunt with it in November. I asked him to send me some brass so I can start getting things together load wise. This is just fantastic turn around time compared to some of the other time frames I have read about here on the forum.

It's a good thing as I couldn't imagine having to wait two or three years -- that would likely kill me -- LOL! ;D
