That would make a nice addition to any big bore sixgunner's "set." Knowing how slick my production BFRs are I'd like to hold one of these custom shop models. Sure wish they would octagon all the way back to the cylinder frame. That is one of the recent production BFRs that comes D&T with a scope base.. Wonder where it is?

That's a really nice custom. Like Axehandle I wish the octagonal was all the way back.

I don't like the way MRI does there Octagon barrels ether, I have one on a stretch frame, they leave the top round rather than cut the last flat to form a Octagon. Same thing under the ejector housing.
I would think this is to keep cost down.
Other complaints I have would include sharp edges, I bet there polishing wheel looks new (at least they don't round and warp with over polishing)
Cheesy front sights. 2dogs is fixing this for some of us!
Overly long frame and cylinder for there 500S&W, wish they would come out with a in-between lenght frame for the 500S&W or at least shorten the cylinder to better fit the round.
Too short ejector rods not fully ejecting cases on the long frame revolvers.
The way they measure barrel lengths. Everyone else including there custom shop measures from the front of the cylinder, not MRI production guns there measurement starts at the end of the frame.
There frames are a little bulkier than needed, I like there older Pre JT frames much better (the bottom of the frame was tapered just like a Ruger/Reeders frames).
With this list you would think I'm a BFR hater, far from it, there great shooting guns that cost less than they should, just not as refined as I would like.

I agree with much of this, and yes, they are a bit bulkier, but I can say with certainty that they are even stronger than the FA 83 -- which already has legendary status is the strength department. Not bashing FA, just saying that these revolvers can take an ungodly pounding and come back fro more. The sharp edges cut my hands to ribbons when we were doing load development, by I remedied that with a small, fine file. They are imperfect, but a good foundation and I have found that they shoot really well. Yeah, I don't get that they have left a segment of the barrel round.

Barrel length would be just right if you cut off the "Magnum " porting.

When I was ordering my PC 475 I had asked about the reason for leaving the last inch round. I was told that making the barrel fully octagon would reduce the surface contact between barrel and frame by 20%?. This keeps them from having to glue their barrels in like their competitor does, I assumed he was talking about FA. I think its pretty obvious it is done after instillation which is easier then having to do all the measuring to make sure the flats line up. In any case its not a very attractive look.

FWIW the FA octagon barrel weighs more than a same length and caliber round FA barrel

Hey. Was just surfing around old stuff on here and ran across this. I bought this pistol. Had one range session so far. Filed the front site down to something that would get me on paper. Was in the market for a 500 jrh anyway and found this. Real bargain when you add in the extras and work. I also thought the barrel was odd looking with round beginnings to an octagonal shape. Not turned off though. Getting next range session this weekend. Very excited. Great trigger. Plan to really impress a doe this year here in northern Virginia with it.

Keep us posted as to how it shoots. Northern Virginia, ay? Whereabouts?
