Can it even be done? and if so what is involved, do I modify a factory Bisley Hammer? Cut off the spur and weld it to an old model? Does somebody make a replacement with Bisley shaped spur? I have an OM 357 that might need one

Clements stuff is nice and I own a few but I found it rather enjoyable to sketch up what I wanted and have Alan Harton make it. It will be unique. The SBH hammer is a pretty good piece to start with.

I'll give Clements a call, now we get a little off topic, but can the rewelded Colt frame mentioned in Taffin's article be made to work with the Ruger as the factory Bisley is a bit long for my liking (but then again I can get all 3 fingers around a stock XR-3, or any other gripframe Ruger has ever used on a Blackhawk/Vaquero), or do I need to weld up something different? For that matter, does anyone have a couple good close up ictures of the base pin latch Elmer Keith designed? (Ireally need toget to Idaho and visit that museum, and maybe convince Taffin and the Mrs. to let me buy them dinner)

Look at Clements Custom Guns website. He makes a couple of different frames and they are shorter than the Bisley model. He also makes the hammer you want. If you want to fabricate a custom hammer on your existing hammer or a custom grip frame Alan Harton is your man.

I start with a OM Single-Six hammer and a Ruger Bisley hammer. I cut off the Bisley hammer's top and then figure out exactly where to cut the OM Single-Six hammer so the OAL will be right for the cylinder frame I'm using. One must be very careful about the hammer plunger's bore when cutting and welding. My endless .44 Special project..... Carl

I understand Mr. Power is also making OM bisley hammers to support his No. 5 gripframes. They aren't on the site, last I checked, but you can give them a call.

You should buy a copy of Bowen's book, the Custom Revolver. There are some good pictures of the latch in there.

I'll check again 2 Dogs, anybody know anything about the construction of that basepin latch? Harton and Bowen have both built them. I'm going to recommend being a gun writer, a regular customer, or a close personal friend before you ask how much they cost tho.

I like the Bisley for the side profile, I have had no trouble with reaching the hammer on sixgun I've ever owned (got to love that long thumb) but think the bisley hammer looks slick, and that's reason enough for me to switch
