My wifes meatloaf sandwhiches are how I got voted in, as a member of the camp I know belong to. I take a stack of them to trout and deer camp. Everyone packs one on the trail to chase trout or sit in their treestand. Then ya gotta have the monster cookie. Man can live on beer, meatloaf sandwhiches, and monster cookies alone. Burp. steve b

Steveb, You better keep an eye posted for bear when you pull them out to eat, just might have a fight on your hands!!! I never had meatloaf sandwiches yet but they sell them in the food machine where I work. Everyones calls it the spinning wheel of death!! But most things arent half bad! I'm gonna have to try them soon, not home made but they look like it!

Why, you dirty rottens, this has to be the cruelest thread ever on this forum! That, or I came here really hungry. Or both! Honestly, I L-O-V-E homemade meatloaf and as one poster said above, will go out of my way to seek out others interpretation of this food-of-the-gods in the quest for the PPML (Perfect Packin MeatLoaf). Sorry, I just had to. I wasn't much of a L&O fan as a kid, but learned to like it later in life. Much prefer chicken liver to beef still, however. As for Haggis, well, as a descendant of highland Scots myself, I can't honestly say that I've ever had it, though a good Scot friend threatens me w/it regularly. Maybe I'll take him up on it this coming Christmas. Who knows, after a few single malts, it might rival filet mignon.

As for the meatloaf, the Mrs. always fries up a tablespoon full before it gets tossed in the oven ... got to be sure the spices are right before committing the whole thing to the fire. One thing that I really like is the fact that quite often she will mix mild Italian sausage in with it. A ratio 1 part Italian to 3 parts ground beef ... it goes pretty good. A few years ago, I went up to the deer hunting shack with the guys about 20 North of Two Harbors, MN. The Mrs. made one of her five pounders. As life would have it, everyone had left except my friend Rolf (he is the one in the .405 Winchester thread photos), his brother Eric and myself. The way the hunting shack is run, everyone brings a frozen main dish for the suppertime meal. Sometimes its pheasant, or duck, or venison or, well you never know maybe Haggis. This meatloaf somehow got relegated to the last night. The three of us looked at that meatloaf thinking there is no way to get through it before we left in the morning with all the other leftovers we had to contend with. Boy, were we wrong! It was gone and we were all looking for more. The way it went down, I don't know how the other seven hunters would have reacted if they had stuck around. Hopefully, cooler heads might have prevailed and no fisticuffs or broken bones or gun play (tongue in cheek here) would have been involved! The Mrs. just chimed and a said, "don't forget the sage". I always make mine with plenty of caraway seed as well.

maxcactus...The PPML !!! OH MY GOODNESS!!! And to think people on here, me included, have been looking for the Perfect Packin Pistol for so long! They need to rethink whats really important!! Theres gotta be a way to pack meatloaf in a pack all day even in hot weather without it turnin green and smelly! Can you imagine being able to dine on a "Loving-Loaf" from the Artic to Africa and everywhere in between!!! THAT would be a dream hunt!!!

hairy Oh hairy...To funny!!!! I honestly would trade a duck for a meatloaf anyday! And no, my house don't look like the Beverly Hillbillies either! Finding a 5 pounder the night before leaving in the morning sounds like a fitting celebration to the end of a hunting season even if all left without a deer!!

Steveb.. I don't know why I never thought of taking Meatloaf sandwhiches anywhere for that matter! I'm alittle embarrassed! You figure, its like holding alittle Heaven in your hand and unlike texting and driving, you can drive with 1 hand and eat with the other, where as texting you need both hands and you gotta keep looking at your phone!
