The .375 H&H turns 100 this year!

I have only owned three. Two Model 70s lost in a house fire, and a Ruger Tropical which shoots lots of cast bullets, is my "heavy" white tail rifle, and keeps the African Big Five at bay on my Kentucky estate. Whenever I carry it. I never see any of those big five critters.

The Ruger needs a better recoil pad than than the stock pad to help with recoil when shooting big loads, but is is very accurate as all Aitch N Aitches seem to be.

My deer loads are the Sierra 200 or Hornaday 220 at about 2200fps and the Speer 235 at 2500 for longer range. The 260-270s at 2700fps seem best for elk, and the 300s which are very accurate, are too heavily constructed for anything I need to shoot these days.

From what I just wrote, I guess you can say that I'm a fan.

I am a fan. I have an old Lee Loader for .375 H&H and a set of RCBS dies for one. That is as far a I've gotten with it so far, but it's on the list should a CZ safari pop up at the right price. I might even take a Zastava/798/Interarms/Charles Daily if it was the right deal.

I have a Sako AV in 375 H&H and I love it. It is my elk gun. I load 270 grain Hornady spire point bullets in it. Every elk that I have shot has gone down. It is my favorite rifle and it gives me a warm fuzzy every time that I just load it let alone shoot it.

Yep. Had a 7# Remington Custom Shop Mountain KS for a bit. Dead accurate and a joy to carry. Took two bull elk with it and the 260 gr Partition. Sold it off as, to me, a 375 H&H must have the look and function of old. Here's the one I own now.

Boxhead you have a very nice old school rifle there is that a Brevex, Mauser action or something else?

I have a rifle built on a Sako L61 action with a Shilen #3 tapered octagon at 22 inches. Magnaported with a Brown Precision stock. I used it a lot while guiding here in Colorado for about 15 years. Pushed 260 grain Noslers Partition at 2250 fps more than enough for anything here that is for certain. This rifle has always been a pleasure to shoot.

I used a Ruger 77 in .338 winchester with a 210 Nosler Partition at 2875 fps for a period of time as well. However the .375 is still my favorite of the two.

1950's model 70 Winchester. 4 rounds down, one in the tube. Feels light and trim when compared to the Ruger express and CZ. Nice gun Boxhead!

I'm a fan of the 375. Once had a #1 Tropical, sold it off once I aquired a model 70 push feed (1970's vintage). Wish I still had the #1, but really like the model 70.

It's a BRNO ZKK-602. I kicked myself for years after passing one up with the classic British style stock when I was living in Canada. A year or so ago I headed to Cabelas to buy one of the 375 Ruger's they were unloading for $600. Went through the used rack and found this BRNO for the same price. Someone had aleady installed a 3-position M70 style safety, two panel checkered bolt knob and the funky swivel band you see. The stock has the original mud finish. I sent the stock off to a forum member on another forum for refinish, new pad, ebony forend tip and crossbolts. Now it is at Tip Burn's place getting 2" lopped off the barrel, a proper swivel band and a replacement banded front sight I had in the parts bin. I do intend to take it far north for brown bear when my retirement comes. Hope to have a photo like yours. Nice bear there.

Wow, those are some nice rifles fella's. Mine's a well worn, trusted Ruger #1 that's been with me for a looooong time. Three years ago it shot completely through a medium size Cow Elk at 250 yards quartering. I used the old Barns 275gr (yup, 275gr) over a healthy dose of WW760. She went 20 yards after being hit.

Frank V at one time it was all I owned...And then you reminded me of some ammo setting in the safe that was set aside for a trip to Africa...However the 375 H&H stayed home...I Have 5 /boxes of Federal 300grn. nosler part. 1 box of Federal 300 grn. Trophy Bond Sledge Hammer and 1 Box of Remington Swift A Frame sp 300 grn. I would make someone a heck of a deal on all 7 boxes $400.00...PM me if interested Frank S

Is a Europeen version as the safety is backwards ,might go some day..
As I picked up a cx working rifle in 416 Rig....

Not to get off topic, but Cabelas in Springfield OR (near Eugene) has a pre-64 Win model 70 in .375 H&H for $1399. Has a tiny compass in the top comb of the stock near the butt, but other than that its a good looking shooter, no extra holes or customizing done. If I had the funds, it would have been in my safe by now! But, this forum has me all jacked up for Single Actions, so all my gun $$ is going to them!

I have an Interarms Whitworth Express .375 that has made 3 trips to Africa in my hands since 1985. Great rifle. Very accurate and always reliable with all the safari features. Its one I wont sell short of starving.

Yrs ago helped a friend sight-in 3 rifles for a trip to Africa for cape buffalo. One was a Whitworth like the one mentioned above. It was accurate, and easy to shoot for the performance level. Prefered it to the .458 and some kinda Weatherby he also brought out that day. steve b
