Hi guys, New here to the forum. Been a single action nut for years though. Looking for an Abilene or Seville in .44 mag. Prefer blue, 7.5 bbl. Owned several Ruger SB's over the years but want something different this time. After reading Lee Martin's article here about the Abilene story, I want one all the more. Any info you could post is welcome. Thanks!
Oh BTW. My handle 'nolongcolt' refers to my pet peeve of calling the .45 Colt the "long Colt", since there never was a .45 Long Colt cartridge or a .45 Short Colt to base it on.

Thanks for the welcome Dudey! Been poking around here for a while. My current favorite play gun is my Cimarron New Sheriff in .45 COLT. 3.5 inch barrel with ejector. Shoots way better than it should, sights were on left and right and only needed a front sight file down to bring it right on at 15 yards. Really a neat little gun. Having good luck using 6.0 grs of that little donut powder, Trail Boss, with cast traditional style RNFP bullets. Have others of course, 45 Colt is my favorite handgun caliber. Have a S&W Mountain Gun and a Ruger SS Bisley also in 45. Plus there is a Colt SAA in .44-40, my other favorite round. Yeah it can be a bit picky as to brass depending on the chambers, but this Colt is set up well for W/W brass and takes a .428 Desperado bullet in the chambers, pokes them thru the .429 bore and puts them right close to one another at 25 yards, about all one can ask for. Sold my last .44 mag to help finance my last trip to Africa in June '11 thus the search for an Abilene. A lot of the fun is in the looking! Thanks again!

is 44 is amazingly accurate and easy for me to hit with: course this one packs around a bit easier: might be my favorite 44 at this point

Nice guns there fellas! Thanks for the welcome! Bob, how long is the barrel on yours? I have been eyeballing one that I thought was 7.5 but the more I look at it the longer it gets. According to Lee's article, the Abilene in blue only came in 7.5 in 44 mag. Thanks for the encouragment!

I see there are two Abilene's on GunsAmerica right now and both appear to have 9" barrels. I had thought from reading Lee Martins article that a blue .44 mag came in 7.5" only. Anybody else have 9" barrels on their Abi's? Its too long for my taste and I dont like to buy a gun going in knowing I have to lop off barrel and would hate to anyway.
Thanks!

i have a seville and abilene both in 44 magnum. the seville has a 7 and a half inch barrel and the abilene has a 8 and a half incher. i have been thinking about sending the abilene to alan harton and having him put a smith and wesson barrel on the gun in a shorter length.
