Has anyone had Regan Nonneman convert a Marlin to 50 Alaskan?
I've got a beat up 336 Texan that I'm considering sending to him. My specs are:
20 inch Octagon Barrel Black T finish Laminated stocks Patridge sights

I know Regan, and have shot his conversions. They are "right".
Yep I've shot the 20" barreled 50 AK. It'll make the average 458 winchester mag, Cry. 525's at 1850 or so. And at less than 35K pressure.
Not to mention his 1894 in 38-40 WCF.

My partner and I had a 45-70 95 Marlin converted to 50 by Dan at Classic Barrel Works. Took a little while but work seems top notch and was very reasonable. I will add it is the most miserable kicking SOB I have shot. I may shorten the barrel from 22 to 16 to see if it makes it more civilized.

Less time to build pressure maybe??? Maybe not. Never been much good at the calculating thing.

I know the physics behind it Gary, but I gotta tell you.....I've never cut a barrel down and had recoil diminish. Usually the opposite occurs. Longer barrels not only add weight, but they put the recoil impulse farther out. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Dang Lee. I had it all figured out now you burst my bubble. Guess I will cut it down cause I like short Marlins now. I figured blast would increase but felt recoil would diminish. I figured some reduction in recoil would be offset by the loss of weight from the discarded 6" of barrel. I have never understood recoil impulse and have just judged based on perception. We just shortened a beater 444. May have to find a full size 444 and test my theory.
