Now wouldn't this fit in well with my #5 "Set" ? Kind of an obscure cartridge... Fancy grips but no CCH. Does that look like a BH trigger? Compared to what I saw on his earlier NM mid frame 44 Special #5 I was expecting an octagon barrel and some CCH for $5500..

Bowen gets alot of money for his #5 latch and the power gripframe with grips. I don't believe that that conversion is linebored either. Still looks very nice though.

Based on his using a 30 carbine cylinder I'd guess that it would be line bored. That latch is cool but at $2200, plus your Bisley, IMHO the Nimrod is a much better value. $4400 would build a 41 and a 44 Nimrod. Leaves $1100 for a pair of stock bisleys to start..

Never seen a line bored Bowen without a scratch made cylinder. doesn't mean it isn't though. Agreed on the Nimrod being a good deal. Also his drift rear sight topstraps at $800 strike me as reasonable if you're looking for something different. As a matter of fact I'm sending him a gun next week for a nimrod with drift adj rear sight!

All I can say is after going the #5 route on the old model 357 flat top converted into a dual cylinder 41 Spec./41 mag with ivories by Persinger, this is not out of line and you wouldn't be over two years in the making either.

If I wanted a #5 style piece with lever latch and all Mr. Harton's shop is where I would go.

AXE--one cool custom !!! those front and rear sights look kinda like the old micro aftermarket Co. sights--the front sight really gets my blood flowing---------------------

Gorgeous sixgun but not the way I would go if spending that much on one gun. The #5 latch mechanism is very neat and a wonderful tribute to ole Elmer and Harold Croft but IMHO, it's not worth the expense for my purposes. May feel the same way about the #5 grip conversion too but I'd have to handle and shoot one to know for sure.
I'm all over the blueprinted exterior and Persinger ivory though. Would probably just rather use the XR3, PC Colt-style or Bisley grip frame, standard basepin retention system and spend the extra coin on other work or engraving.

+1 on passing on the latch. It is a mechanical work of art but for my acknowledged questionable tastes and limited funds I'd put that money in an octagon barrel and a cylinder. Any ideas about why this 44 magnum would literally be $1000 more than the pretty much exact thing on the mid frame 44 Special #5 he recently posted?

Agreed and an octagon barrel would be a better place for my money as well. I wonder if this one is not one of his "Best Grade" guns with the extra care taken in fit and finish. It's in the right price range. It looks like it to me but I don't remember the other one. Would need detailed pictures of both to tell. IMHO, that is detail work that is worth the extra coin. Of course, you get nearly the same level of fit and finish right out of the box with a USFA.

As a long time owner and shooter of a TLA No. 5 I will say that the grip frame does nothing for me. Much prefer the standard one, either XR3 or Red, unless Linebaughing.

Another good point.. I've never held one of the Ron Power grip frames but I've got Reeder, Clements, and TLA versions. Even at 44 mag levels I find the Bisley much more comfortable.

Check out the #5 spec page. Even adding $395 for a cailber conversion he is still $1100 higher than the prices on the page.. This gun has got to have something we aren't aware of. Hammer isn't even CCH. Dang sure isn't a custom cylinder and octagon barrel.. Needs a more extensive set of pictures. www.bowenclassicarms.com/catalog/keith_no5_conversions.html
