I thinking get ordering the custom by the CFO first... Then play the bad back and big gun makes it hurt more card. Tears in the eyes.. Little whine in your voice.. Chapped spot on your hip.. Bam!... 3.5 inch octagon barrel round butt FA 97 in the bag! P.S. Let me know if it works.. I need a new plan myself..

I am usually a lurker here and read trying to educate my self. But this thread has sparked my intrest. I have not been able to get the bowen article to completely open so I have not read the whole thing. I did see where they made a 5 shot 44 mag on a new model vaquero. On this platform is it still able to handle the stiffest loads. If so seems like this would be a good woods carry.

A 45 Colt Alan Harton put together for me some years ago. Aluminum everywhere I could put it. IIRC it goes 34 oz.

MY GOD AXE is that a buggered screw on that FA sight? If you shoot your FA83s and FA97s enough, you will get loose screws. I've tried loc tite, fishing line, finger nail polish, etc. -- none seem to work for me, so I carry a screw driver (from FA). I'm the biggest screw butcher on the block and the screw heads on my FAs attest to that fact. I do have "screw sets" from FA that I'll replace the booger heads with when I quit shooting mine. Paul

ill probably never have the cash to do another custom but if i did a 44 mag case hardened 5 shot small framed bisley vaquero 4 5/8s with a drift ajust front sight and scalloped recoil shield and loading gate and while im dreaming a set of ivorys would look pretty good on it too.

FWIW that FA 97 is a 41 Mag... Palm Size! Axe, how much do those ports help on that FA97?

Bringing this thread back up cuz I was looking for the Clements octagon barreled 38 of Axe's. I carry this gun at the farm more than all the others combined. Lightweight in a crossdraw rig and I dont even notice it is there. Recoil is stout with a case full of lilgun and 250gr pills for hunting. Most of the time it carries a mild load of blue dot and 230 gr pills. For size comparison, its dainty compared to the Clements octagon 41 AcuSport. I just sold a 45 bisley hunter and 41 hunter to get the war chest up for another FA. Keep hoping to stumble on an octagon FA 97 in a 32 or 32-20. Maybe Santa is reading SA!

I used to have one just like that. It was a fine little piece.
