This ol' thing has been coming down the pipe for long time.
I scooped up a foster stainless frame back in the day, then had to wait to afford the rest of it.
the stars aligned today and I got to run a few rounds of berry's 180 plated HP over 9.1 Grains HS-6 through it. (about 1100 fps - perfect)
primers were flat, I'm going to AA #9 for the next iteration. My planned load is a Hornady 200 gn XTP @1100 once I get it all wrung out. I'm gonna shoot up a few hundred Berry's getting the feel for it. HS-6 is my "gold standard" for those barely subsonic revolver loads, but I didn't feel it was gonna be the "go to" for what I wanted to do here.
24 lb recoil spring and I was still throwing brass 15 feet. Going to go to the 26 next outing.
The Mccormick magazine fed, but wouldn't lock the slide back & the follower would jump the slide stop and have to be yanked out of the gun.
The checkmate magazine with a nylon follower would hang the last round with a slide lock every time.
It goes back in the safe till I get magazine rebuild parts.
Going to do tripp flex followers with wollf shooting star springs. I think this is the best chance to maintain 9 rd capacity in a flush fit mag and not affect reliability.
For those of you with lady friends, my lady cannot chamber a round with a 24 lb recoil spring. She can't get the slide all the way back. This is strictly daddy's gun.
Final fitting has not been done. Back of the slide and GS still need blended in.
Various other cosmetic points need addressed yet.
Not messing with this stuff till I have some rounds down range.
Specs:
Foster Frame
Fusion Firearms top end
Wilson Combat Concealment Grip safety, hammer/sear disconnnector
Harrison Design Trigger
Ed Brown Mainspring Housing, Slide Stop, thumb safety and mag catch.
Buckeye burl grips by sarge @ the finer grain.
I love the concealment hammer/grip safety. Anything I build from scratch from here out gets this treatment.
Bobtail Commander form factor, if anyone is confused after looking at the pictures.
