I would like to share a custom Ruger .44 that was recently completed. The project gun started off as a well used, standard, 6 1/2" .357 Mag. 3-screw. Modifications from the stock configuration include: - Conversion to .44 Special caliber by Alpha Precision (Jim Stroh) - Barrel shortened to 4 5/8" by Alpha Precision - Alpha Precision front sight (with interchangeable blades) - Bowen Arms rear target sight - Belt Mountain base pin with lock screw - Clements Custom Guns wide trigger - Ruger steel ejector housing - Ruger XR3 gripframe (polished) - Nutmeg Sports ivory grips (w/ Ruger black eagle medallions) - Alpha Precision Master Blue finish (with blued hammer) The appearance of this gun was modeled after Blackhawk S/N 100, an engraved flattop that was presented by W.B. Ruger to an associate.

Great looking custom. I especially like the color contrast. The grips on polished aluminum was a nice touch. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Thanks for the comments. I believe that Mr. Stroh is one of the masters working today.
This project came together over several years, and the ivory grips were the final piece of the puzzle. Still needs to be shot though!

Beautiful! Yes indeed, Jim Stroh is a master and a heck of a nice guy to boot. I live 30 minutes from his place - I wish that meant quicker turnaround, but I have to wait like the reset.

Gorgeous!
I'm still debating on whether to polish the XR3 grip frame or install a Power Custom two-piece for my next OMBH project. I love the way the polished grip frame with ivory stocks looks! Fairly certain I want to utilize Jim's services again and make it a 7½" .38-40. Trying to decide if I want to do it on a budget or go whole-hog and have it engraved and stocked in ivory.

Thanks again. This project is really a tale of 2 guns. As I mentioned in the first post, the inspiration for this custom came from a picture of Blackhawk S/N 100 that I saw several years ago in American Rifleman. I remember looking at the picture many times and thinking it was the best looking Ruger ever produced. Here is #100, the gun that stirred my imagination:

You're going to force me to finally spruce up my 44 flat top.
