I am heading south in Nov to hunt deer on my brother in laws farm and want to use my Ruger 44spl flattop my usual load is 71/2 unique on a Dry Creek Keith bullet and I am wondering if this is OK for a good size buck or should I cook up somthing with 2400. I have tried 15 and 16 grns and it is stout and I am sure it would work but I can keep all of the unique loads on a paper plate at 50yrds and am very comfortable with this load. If all else fails I am thinking Buffelo Bores 100fps 44spl load. I am 100% disabled so into the woods on a 3 wheeler and then a tree stand and shots will no more than 50 yards (MY Max) any suggestions?

Between now and November is not a good time to go playing with loads. The time frame is to short and you would be uncertain of a proper hit. The 15 grains will not help if you are unable to hit with it.
If you are able to hit well with the 7.5 Unique load use it. You are comfortable with this load and have used it a lot and have confidence in the load. All you have to do is put the hole where it belongs. The rest will take care of itself.

I agree. Load up all your cases with the load you are familiar with and keep practicing. I would look for a little better accuracy. Maybe lighten the trigger pull, a over-size base pin, etc.. steve b

Here is an article by Ross Seyfried that talks about loads for the new .44spl ruger flat-tops. www.gunsamerica.com/blog/ross-seyfried-lipseys-ruger-flattop-44-special-bisley-revolvers/I'm still working a load for my .45 Bisley (although it's just fine tuning an already useable load), and November is a couple of months away. You can ALWAYS go back to the other load if you don't find something else that works well soon. If it was October, I'd say it's too late, but it's the end of August still.

I have added a Belt Mountain base pin and just finished putting a Wolff spring kit in and heading to the range. The spring kit helped the trigger a lot so we will see how it goes I also have a box of the Buffelo Bore Keith loads to try out

I'm new to this board and want to take the time to admire your interest in taking a deer with a handgun, especially given the fact you're disabled and willing to do so, you have my utmost respect. Your load of 7.5 of Unique and a 250 Keith will perform the job nicely if you do your part. There is not a whitetail walking that could hold one. I killed my first whitetail with a handgun at 13 with a 4" Model 29 using a 250 Keith over 22 grs. of #2400. I'm 48 now and have been afforded the opportunity to take many game animals over the years with a handgun. Your chosen gun and load will do just fine. Good luck to you sir!

Well I finally got the Ruger 44spl to the range I had 1 box of Buffelo Bore 44spl loads and 50 of my 71/2 gr Unique on a Dry Creek 240 bulllet. The Buffelo Bore shot pretty good at 25yrds and the recoil was fairley mild my handloads shot much better and seemed to be a little hotter. The Buffelo loads shot about 2in and were very consistint my handloads were 2 in and I had two groups at 1in so I think I will use my loads on my deer hunt but I did buy another box of Buffelo bore (Ouch at almost $2.00 a shot) just to have on hand and try them on a Doe hunt and my loads on the BIG buck who is waiting for me down south.
