It is the stack of firewood in the back that does it for you isn't it? That pic is at Mom and Dad's place in Tallapoosa county down close to Auburn. It is almost heaven for people who like shooting and 4x4s. The V8 CJs from that era were something else. With stock gearing you would not believe how quick it would get over 100 MPH. 4.56 gears made it much safer. The gear change and a detroit locker in the back made it run the woods like a tractor.. Let a "good" friend snake me out of it for less than I gave for the custom 9 inch Ford rear end I had Currie build for me...

I remember so vividly those little 2.5 YJ's. They were so expensive that kids couldnt afford the 4.0's. They would ALWAYS make at least 1 trip back into the shop with at least 33's thrown on them and a customer complaint of no power/poor fuel mileage, and no understanding of reason much less physics, makes ya just want to hit somebody with a pry bar.

I have a "Chili Red" TJ with a 2.5 4 banger. My son has a YJ with the same engine. His has been regeared and he runs 33 inch tires. He has WAY more power than I doi with my 31 inch tires. Mine gets better gas mileage and a better ride, but I told him I would buy his jeep if he ever wanted to sell!

My best friend has one of the 4 door models and I love it. The ride is much nicer over distance and it still is pretty nimble. The plus it I actually fit in it.
Now for the retro. A classmate of my father had an old CJ. He was a notorious hot rodder. He shoehorned a Ford 429 super cobra jet into it. Big tires, Side pipes and a lead foot. It's a wonder he didn't end up smushed. I never got to ride in it, not sure I would want to.... He is now retired and the CJ is long gone. Replaced with a Ford ranger. The good news is he still cannot resist tinkering with it.
