Package arrived yesterday... OM 44 Cylinder, NM dragoon style brass grip frame, and a 6 inch S&W 45 barrel... This is the first time I have really looked at the little gadget to put a NM grip frame on a OM... Neat trick... Now... In the last couple of weeks I have received a FT 44, a brass GF, and a ribbed S&W 45 barrel from the same location on the west coast.... Is it my imagination or has Kings6 successfully transplanted one of his pet projects to Alabama?

All the grins and giggles on someone elses dime! ;D
Seriously, I have finally come to learn that having a small stash of project parts is not necessarily a good thing. It becomes too easy to lose focus on ones goals in custom revolvers and end up with analysis paralysis on what to build or do next. Now if a guy isn't to concerned about the cost end of it that is okay but I think I'm becoming more a a savor than a slurper.
Glenn pointed this out to me when he suggested I write down what projects were out there just in case I fell in a tank or something, he could follow up on stuff for the wife. Once a guy puts some of this stuff on paper, it makes him think real hard about what he wants the next project to be and who he wants to work with on it.
It is also amazing the subtle differences each gun artist puts on their pieces and how most pieces are truly a collaboration of talents from many people in the industry. Welding by one guy, sights by another, frame from another source, barrel form hear, etc.
So, in answer to Axes question, yes it will be fun to watch a project I'd thought about get done. I only hope that someday I get the opportunity to see all those brass frames, Clements parts, barrels and OM guns in person some day. ;D

You never know... Arizona is a lot closer than Alabama... We may need to plan a trip to go see JT.... Since he doesn't travel anymore it will be like shooting ducks on a pond! ;D

I'm headed through Boise next month when I move my daughter to TX. I hope to stop at Cabelas and see the EK museum and I'd love to be able to buy JT a cup of coffee if he has time. We'll have to see what works out. You just keep putting those parts to good use Chief.

I'm just beginning my path w/ "custom" sixguns. How long will it last?...........I don't know......... but I do know that I have two projects that i'm committed to. one is approaching it's 12 month birthday in August, so we'll probably be getting to the nitty gritty on it in a couple of months. Another, I just put in the pipeline a few months ago. So plenty of time to modify/tweak that one. Another, i'm gathering parts for........ then the desire for a 475, either custom or FA.........A bisley that WILL be sent off for an action job/tweaking and barrel shortening. But the bottom line is I'm actually beginning to feel like a chicken running around with it's head cut off. Thanks for the words of wisdom. c.r.

Robb, you and TL can just speak for yourselves. A real sixgunner takes one look at that impossible leap, turns his cayuse around, slaps the spurs to him and goes for the other side! Guys, you can do it if you can dream it!

Custom OR FA? Whoa! This needs to read custom AND FA.... ;D
Personally I think that there is real value added in interaction with these guys with all this experience having customs built... I believe that there is also a significant advantage in coming up with a project that your gunsmith is interested in... I agree with Kings6 and Zeus that there is a danger in getting to many things going on at one time... When you collect parts make sure that they fit your plan. It is easy to get caught up in the part collection process and end up with a useless hodge podge of nothing... Good stuff but of no value to any ongoing projects...

I agree with Kings6, I have a couple projects in mind, but to avoid a stockpile of spare parts taller than I am, I'm being selective about the guns I build, first off is the Vaquero 44Special, next comes a single six in 38 Special where I lan to reuse the barrel from the Vaquero, then shortly thereafter I plan to start on a 327-22 off of a Blackhawk of some variation...

I fully disagree. This site is chock full of guys I have been able to assist build a custom sixgun since I had an extra part.

"...fully disagree" Come now two Dogs... Fully disagree? I think the point was to not spend all your gun funds on parts.... It is always smart to recognize a good deal and grab it. Of course there are those with seemingly limitless funds Who can stockpile anything they want! We appreciate you guys...

Well Axe, you just never know when a part might come in handy! Besides, they aint getting any cheaper. I see what you are saying, I really do. But to agree would be to accept the fact that that at some point one might not require another custom sixgun.

Besides, they aint getting any cheaper. Excactly. I collect parts for many different projects all the time. When I see something I may need down the road and the price is right, it gets stock-piled. The key is I work one project at a time. The next doesn't get started until the previous is done. Problem is there's no order to how I do it and the project list constantly changes. New ideas seem to trump old ideas. For example, I have a 357 Maximum I bought back in 2004. The plan has always been to do a 475 Linebaugh Long on it. After my last conversion, I vowed to finally start it. Then I got into an OM 44 Special conversion (which is taking forever because my weekends keep filling-up). Then this past week I started looking at an old 357 Maximum Seville I have that was shot heavily as an IHMSA gun. Now I'm all hot to turn that into a 445 SuperMag....looks like the 475 takes a backseat again. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Which would not be the case if you had a spare Maximum laying around waiting for conversion......

Which would not be the case if you had a spare Maximum laying around waiting for conversion...... Vicious circle, isn't it? The one common thread for all of these projects though is $$$$'s. -Lee www.singleactions.com
