I am doing back flips. I won a zone 9 moose permit. Does anyone have a recommend guide. I did get a call from a guide about trading it for a zone 1. Not sure what I am going to do.

Good for you. Don't laugh but I obtained a NH moose permit this year. Zone I 1 . It will be a tough hunt.

Congrats to both you gents. I would like to suggest a new rule for the forum, however, in that you can't post bragging of a hunt you've been drawn for unless you later post pictures of said hunt, even if you get skunked! ;D (Same rule should apply to sixguns and other guns too - no braggin unless you post some pics to back up your jawin')
It's just cruel to the rest of us that might never get drawn for a mooseasaurus! I'd love to see pictures of the beautiful Main and NH countryside at least. Bullwinkle would just be a great bonus.
Y'all have a great time and best of luck to you.
Max

Why use a guide ?
To increase your chances of getting a moose. Moose aren't the stupid Bullwinkles that many make them out to be. Once they are hunted they become wary. Think of this. How often do you get picked for a New England moose permit? It is rare. I know people who have applied since day one in Maine and have never been drawn.
Also you will need help if you happen to get one. They ain't too easy to drag out.

I have been to Maine twice. One time for hunting. I want to make the most of this hunt. Once in a life time at best and spending a week with my father. It is going to be a great time.

Know many a folk that have gotten drawn and gotten their moose, only a couple did not. Many more would get 'em if they ventured off the roads they drive around on and actually hunted, meaning physically & actively pursued, the animals. How most do it just isn't hunting IMO. I guess a guide service would get one out walking and stalking so that's a plus. I put in years back but didn't bother giving the state my $ each yr when I kept seeing 3 or 4 people in a family get drawn each yr. Really soured me when people would put in and not buy a license unless they got drawn so a guy would put in him, his wife, kids, dog, grandmother, whomever he could. They at least stopped that part finally but I was too soured on the whole lottery system. When one whole family gets drawn and then drawn again in 5yrs, and many still never get one...there's a problem. I guess for one that's from away yeah a guide is worthwhile, they know the area and can entertain the client as well. being in Dist 9, gives good location too. Central but not too remotely located (Greenville, Shirley...nice area. Lots of moose. I remember my uncle (he lived there) saying he'd see 8 or 10 at a time in some areas. Biggest thing though isn't if you get the big bull, it's that you have a fun, memorable time. As it's with your father, it's the "time" that should matter most.

I lucked out in getting a NH moose permit for the second time in my life. I am looking at a guide for some assistance. I believe some areas of both states are easier while others are harder. Some places with clear cuts offer better opportunities vs. the more southernly locations.
