Finally got a digital camera and want to take pictures of some of my guns. Any advice on how to snap them? I know outdoors is best. Any other tricks? Thanks.

Outdoor lighting is best, but do it in the shade. Watch for reflections.

Boge and Axe are right. Find a shady spot on a sunny day. Backgrounds that contrast the color of the gun also helps: -Lee www.singleactions.com

All good points and a lot of it is trial and error. Depending on the camera you can use some of the preset modes to get different effects. Otherwise when I shoot (pics) inside I usually bounce the flash of the ceiling to not get so much glare.

Lee: is that a custom 41? The throats look smaller than 44.

Outdoors out in the open 20 minutes before sundown. Indoors corner window light from two windows one on each wall.

I'm a "Indoors" gun image fan. (The snow's finally melted, though.) Simple background so it doesn't "upstage" the gun. I'll use a white "reflector" to bounce some light on the gun to kill the shadows. For me the KEY is using a tripod and the self timer so I'm not touching the camera. Surf this site and www.rugerforum.com's gallery for some great images! You get some ideas... Carl

I've heard of a concept called a "Picture Box." From what I understand it is just a square box that is open on one end. Painted all white to eliminate shadows.. Might be something easy to do for handguns.

I know I get much better photos outside using indirect natural light and the tripod DOES help. I can't seem to get the knack of bouncing light.

I just started two threads here in the gallery. The guys here have been so helpful over the years. I have gotten to the point that I looked outside and thought- perfect gun pic light! So I ran out and snapped half a dozen pics.
