American derringer and Bond Texas Arms. Both make 44 special, both seem to run $350 or so. The American Derringers I have in 45/410 and 38 special are functional, not real accurate and heavier than you'd expect. Weigh about the same as a Charter Bulldog in 44 special. Bond makes interchangeable barrels, Americans barrels are not easily changed.

Thanks Hoss. I have a Bulldog and a NM Vaquero Sheriff's in .44specc.. A derringer would be another small .44spec, a back-up to them, or a bare minimum carry piece. Its original role. steve b

FWIW, I have it on good authority that the founder of Bond is a former American Derringer employee...(Was told that by "Lady Derringer" herself!)

I thought American Derringer went out of business.

No, just keeping odd hours. I saw a writeup on 'em in Gun World and called a couple months back, spoke with the boss lady. Still goin'. I wanted to buy a box for my 38, but they were kind of pricey. (I believe the quote was over $60 for a hinged lid metal box) I decided a loose derringer was fine.

I once felt an urge to buy one of the top drawer derringers myself. In recent years with all the small multiple shot pocket guns available I pick up and look at the derringers but feel no urge to buy... I can still admire the fit and finish but for me they are just to big and heavy for only two shots.

As I've been CCW'ing the .44 NM Sheriff's 24/7 for a couple months now...it is still bulky and heavy. A flat two-shooter, hmmnnn.... steve b

I had a Bond Arms in 44 magnum with the 2.5" barrel. It would shoot 44 specials of course but the magnums loaded warm were more "exciting" I sold it to a buddy years ago and have thought several times over the years to replace it but just haven't gotten around to it yet. They are heavy and clumbsy but I still like them to just toy around with sometimes.

At work, we are looking at soon going to an extended mandatory OT schedule again. Bought my FT BH and .44spec Sheriff Vaquero when we were last on that schedule. The .44spec Derringer is on my list of goodies to buy if the company is gonna force me to make more money ! Then maybe a lever gun and a coach gun in case I wanna play in SASS or some such. steve b

Hard for me to take it when something looks so good but feels so bad in my hand. Somewhat like the birdsbead grip on a single actions.. I just love the look but. I have some reliable small 45 ACP 1911s that keep me on the straight and narrow anytime I get to thinking derringer..
