We lost Elmer in February 1984. I remember well learning of his death. Certainly there will never be another like him.

I remember Feb 1984 well. I was a Senior in high school and I lost two of my heros that month. The 1st was my Grandpaw and 2nd was Elmer Keith. I can remember hiding and reading EK stories in school. There probably is not a senior in high school now that can tell you who EK was. I never got to meet Elmer but I did meet and visit with Bill Jordan before he passed away. They don't make them like Bill and Elmer anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just re-read Sixguns a few months back. The chapter on reloading is the best I've ever seen on the topic.....a must read for anyone that shoots. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Well my good buddie Lee Jurras is doing well. He was friends with EK, Skeeter, Major Nonte, Col. Askins, Lt Col. Cooper and all the old guard.

I was 22yrs old back then and remember reading in a magazine, poss Guns & Ammo that he had died a month or so ago. I could'nt beleive it. No computers back then to find out things happened, when they happened !

Crazyhorse,
You were a senior the same year that I was, and I remember that year all too well. My grandfather had passed the previous March, but his birthday was the same as mine: Feb 6th. That reminder, plus Elmer's passing made it a sad time.
I still enjoy reading EK's writings.

Found a rather interesting web site devoted to EK at www.elmerkeithshoot.org. Includes photographs provided by Taffin, links to this forum, etc...

I know, I wasn't even a year old when Elmer died, but to hell if I didn't wish I was 20 years older today. Would have liked to have got ot know him and Skeeter, but now we have guys that I think are right on par with the 2 of them, namely John Taffin, John Connor, Mike Venturino (yeah, I said it), and Bryce Towsley

In June 1986 I passed through Deming, NM on my way to and from The American Pistol Institute. I still hate I didn't try to look up Skeeter Skelton and meet him. I just felt it would have been rude to show up at his house uninvited and unannounced.

I wrote to him in the hospital circa 82-83 after he had his stroke. Ted (If I recall correctly wrote back).
