I just found myself not caring for it in the midframe Ruger SA.[/quote]

Why keep something you don't shoot? Sounds like selling this gun could go to help fund something you might enjoy shooting.

Send them my way if you no longer have any love for them. ;D Most of my 357s are DAs but that 5 1/2" M97 of Paul's was the cat's meow for a medium sized tool!
Gorgeous combination of the carved holster, black micartas (?) and the octagon bbl M97!

Don't get me wrong boys, I'm not against the .357. Just not as "for" it as some of my others, and I have to pare my collection down. There is still a Single Six in the back of the safe earmarked for a "someday" conversion to .38 Special or .357 Mag. And I have found myself strangely lusting after a Dan Wesson Pistol Pac in .357, as well. I just found myself not caring for it in the midframe Ruger SA. Good luck on the DW pistol pack. They can be found but they've tended to increase in cost. 357s are less expensive than 44s for the most part. I am very fond of mine even if I've had to 'assemble' pistol packs myself (as opposed to buying the complete "set"). I've about decided that 4" and 6" barrels are adequate for my "sets".

What? I don't know what to think about you guys... For me Skeeter pretty much called it on the 357... There is no end to my affair with the 357.. DA, SA, and in all barrel lengths too. My latest addition to my 357 "set" is a nine inch FA model 83... Currently sitting in Flagstaff with new ivory micarta grips. I am with Axe on this...keep it.

Im not EVEN going to bother to read this thread.
Why keep my 357? What on earth could you be thinking?
I have a couple of them that easily shoot 3/4 inch at 25 yards off the bench with open sights. My FA357, my NM Anniversary, my Colt Trooper, AND my OM Flattop are all spectacular sixguns. I have carried it to protect my life and it has gotten me out of some scrapes. The 357 has killed everything I have aimed it at. Its flat, fast, and has plenty of ZAP! Now granted, it wouldnt be my first choice for hunting the Big Bears but I have other sixguns for that kind of country. Meanwhile, the 357 is field gun with almost no peer. Easy to shoot, versatile, and as accurate as I can hold..... You need help. OR Glock talk dot com.....

I wouldn't want to part with this sweet shooting little rascal. It has the factory action job but I'm still amazed at how FA manages to get this nice of a trigger pull on a transfer bar revolver.

She's gone boys. I got enough that I don't have to moan about how much I lost, just that that's one I won't get back. It's in good hands. A gentleman from Tennessee promised me he would "make something useful out of the old girl". I imagine that is an understatement. It shot like a champ: - 3 shots, adjust sights, 3 shots with 180 CP bullets and 296 at about 25 yards: I'd already made up my mind to sell it when I started this thread. Just figured as much as I thought about it in the weeks before, and weighed pros and cons, you guys might have some valuable viewpoints and dicussions too. And you did. Even in the great WSOGMM, maybe someday this can wash out against funding the .38 special single six I have wanted for so long. 8 months ago, I was contemplating how to build some racks to better organize my safe. No longer an issue. I have had to move out quite a bit of stuff since I lost my job last August. If I could, i'd keep em all and keep adding, but I can't. I'm living pretty simple compared to my former new gun a month regimen. On the plus side, my new job is whipping me back into shape. Down 40 lbs from 3 years ago, and 3 & 4 from the six pack are making an appearance after a 10 year abscence. The girl in the next room makes me happier than a day of shooting - and she will go with me for a day of shooting. One of my favorite lines has always been : If you want to make God laugh, just tell him your plans"

Aggie - sorry to hear about the job loss but happy to hear of the new job. We, including me, may give you some good natured grief about letting any gun go and I hate it for you and anyone who's an enthusiast. At the same time, I'll bet everyone here has been there and can empathize.
Set a date with the girl in the next room yet?

I have been in the same quandry when it comes to the 357 myself as I look at what I shall keep and what I shall pass on to my boys. I have been looking at the pros and cons of a 357 versus a larger caliber such as 44 Special,45 Colt,41 Magnum,44 Magnum..I know that the larger calibers can do what a 357 can do and much more all depending on the load, but to me the ease of access to 357 Magnum/38 Special Ammunition puts that Caliber ahead..I live in Ohio, and I don't see myself in a posisition where that extra oomph is needed..I really think when a choice like this is made it's all up to the end user as to what he or she feels best suits his or her needs..Now if I lived in Alaska it might be a different story...As for me I feel comfortable with a good 38 Special or in my case 2 of them..I will keep one of my 357's or pick up another just for that extra bump in power while keeping with a comminality of loading components as my kids and I work towards reloading...With my boys getting my Model 28's I am thinking that maybe a Vaquero will be making it's way to my safe..It is a perfect big brother to my Single Six..This was a great Thread in my humble opinion

Set a date with the girl in the next room yet? One year anniversary in april. Thats when I'm asking. Good for you! I wish you all the luck and fortune I've had with my bride of 32 years. It helps if she's part saint, has an enormous level of patience and tolerance, selective hearing, and can shoot daggers with a casual glance.
