Been thinking of this caliber for a long time. After much thought I have been talking with Steve Garbe at Wyoming Armory about it . I am going to use an orginal 85 winchester low wall going with a 28 inch #1bbl. 3x wood . Still need to decide on sights. Now the question anyone here shooting this caliber willing to share loading data and imput etc, etc. Thanks for your help.

There is one you don't see every day! Last I read of anybody working with a 25-20ss was one Paco Kelly's Leverguns site.

Is brass available for it again? I looked at it a few years ago and 25-20 SS brass was pricey!!!!!

Yes Brass is available at Buffalo Arms and while it is $1.57/each this is alot less than 375 flanged mag @135.00/20rds or more. I have paid even more for 500 nitro express 3.25 inch . I guess it is all relative.

My favorite rabbit round, now it is hard to find ANY. . Always loved Low Walls. A friend did one and left it in the white. Took it hunting, used it a good bit. Loved the look of it. Like SS. . Keep us posted......

I had a Stevens 44 in 25 SS and I got my brass from rocky mountain cartrage and it was $2.00 each. I had real good luck with accurate #9. Shooting a Stevens 44, I could never get the presure up to where you can with a Win. 85. Should be a good match. Bill

I've never worked with the round, but like your project. A 25-20 SS on an 85 is a classic combination. Definitely keep us posted. For those not familiar with the round, here's what it looks like: -Lee www.singleactions.com

I remember a Harvey Donaldson letter from the 60s where he complained about having to pay $25 for a Highwall when all he wanted was the action..........

Interesting round. Can't say I've heard of it before. What sort of performance does it return?

Interesting round. Can't say I've heard of it before. What sort of performance does it return? Sixshooter, this is the case that the 22-3000 Lovell was made from. That is why it is so hard to find original brass. In a Win. 85, you can push this cartrage hard enough to make it a good 200 yard case.

I've owned/shot several rifles of this caliber. What twist will your barrel be? I can share load data when you get there.

Are you going to shoot fixed ammo or are you going to bore seat the bullets and put a loaded case behind it. If your going to shoot fixed ammo, this will limit you to smokeless powder. With the heavy bullet weights your talking about, there is not enough case capasity to stuff black powder in it and get enough vel. to stablize the bullet. Bill

My experience is with breach seating bullets of this weight, for 200 yd target shooting. It will shoot well. I think either way you will want to shoot smokeless.
