This is one of the guns I bought last spring that had a hole drilled in the top strap. I sent the gun to Alan Harton to do his welding magic and CCH. Once the gun was down there I decided that this would be a great opportunity for someone to be able to get a Harton conversion to 44 Special based on on old model 357. Alan rechambered the cylinder, shortened the original 6 1/2" barrel to 5 1/2" and rebored it to 44, did an action job, CCHed the frame as well as the hammer and sent it back to me 9 months later. The gun has the original wood grips as shown in the picture but it also looks right at home with the Sambar stag grips as well. The gun is uncoverted and has the original internals. My thought was that there might be someone who wanted a 44 Special on the midsized frame but was a died in the wool old model fan like I am. This way, a person gets a nice old model conversion with CCH in a great caliber done by one of the best without the almost one year wait time plus the option of upgrading to the stag grips. The gun is listed on Carl's Ruger Forum in the classified section. Thanks for looking guys, Robb

Only about an hour. Dallas is only 15 minutes west of Salem. When Heliman from the Ruger Forum and I swap toys etc we normally meet at the Auroroa exit on the east side of I5 there by the Pacific Pride station.

Must be out past Banks and Forest Grove. I have family northwest of Forest Grove and whenever I visit them I make sure it is around dinner time so we can hit the pizza place there in Banks.

Lee is right, I will be honest and admit that if this one doesn't get snapped up it won't hurt my feelings one bit. If I keep it I'll slip a spare Bowen rear sight on it and one of the extra Clements old model regular framed bisley spurred hammers and shoot the thing. Lest anyone think this is kind of steep pricewise I suggest you go back and look at all the steps involved in the great photo essay Lee did on making a 44 Special conversion. He started with the same type of gun but it didn't need the topstrap fixed or CCH.

GF looks like steel. How about the EJR? I'm afraid to even look at the price...

Nope, those are still aluminum. My whole goal was to keep the price down where some young person could get a chance at their first custom. By keeping some of these other items off the gun I hope to make it 1. easier for someone to get into it and 2. give the buyer room to add their personal touches. Like I said, there are Bowen sights, steel OA gripframes, Clements bisley hammers etc in the box but those are just things that I like on a gun. The next guy might want it as light as possible, like the Ruger rear sight and want to keep the wooden grips etc. In all honesty, I am not going to give it much time before I start tweaking it for myself. I posted it as soon as it arrived because I knew if I didn't it would never leave Oregon.

That fit looks good for alloy! You are right about the "extras" being significant price drivers.. A Bowen rear sight, steel EJR, steel GF, and a #5 basepin can make a big impact on price. Creating the opportunity for someone to get into a custom and later add what their tastes and budget allow is commendable. Picture the little jewel with one of RP's #5 grip frames.. It sure would make a nice addition to anyone's #5 "set."

Had a nice visit with Alan in his shop a few days ago. Working a couple of Smith's for me. Fiddled with a few of "you all's stuff" as well.... Always a pleasant visit.
