JT I have been informed by someone on the Cast Boolit forum to ask you about recent Colt 1911 production guns. Until only very, very recently I thought they were doing military only sales.
How do the more recent models compare to others, like Nighthawk, STI and even Kimber?

Anybody? Anyone get a NEW Colt 1911 in the last few years?

Go to one of the M1911 forums, there is dot com and dot org.
They live and breath 1911s.

I dont have any new colts, but i do know that there are several custom gunsmiths who prefer the new production series 70 1911s for custom builds, because they're supposed to be the most consistant and dimensionally correct 1911s. You might also ask on the Louder Than Words forum, there are several custom 1911 gunsmiths on there.

COLT HAS ALWAYS DONE CIVILIAN SALES IN MY SHOOTING LIFETIME AT LEAST. I HAVE HAD 5 TEST 1911s (THREE .45s + A 10MM AND A .38 SUPER)IN THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF; I BOUGHT 'EM ALL. I CAN'T RECOMMEND THEM ANY HIGHER THAN THAT. GO TO www.american handgunner.com AND CHECK OUT THE DIGITAL EDITIONS OF AH FOR MAR/APR 2010 AND MAR/APR 2011 FOR MY ARTICLES. How do the more recent models compare to others, like Nighthawk, STI and even Kimber? I HAVENO EXPEREINCE WITH NIGHTHAWK AND STI NOR ANY RECENT KIMBERS. BUT THE NEWER COLTS ARE AS GOOD AS THEY GET.

On a side note, it is worth checking out 1911 THE FIRST 100 YEARS by Sweeney. He gives his opinion of Colt's past and present, compared to other manufacturers, with good review of the current models.
It is a combination of history and opinion, with a good section on use of the 1911 during Beretta years.

I went to my gunshop last weekend and he had a new Gold Cup 45 in stainless. The fit and finish looked very good. I asked to hold it and it had a great trigger too! Did I mention it came home with me? :.) I have not had time to shoot it yet.
