People still buy new S&Ws? Chris I do - lock or no lock, they are still making some great stuff. Even without the lock, the newer Smiths with MIM parts leave me cold (they feel "odd", can't explain exactly why). My last new S&W was one of the run of 37-2 snubbies that were built of leftover parts (all forged internals, no lock, factory bobbed hammer w/hammer-mounted pin). It was newly assembled, but of parts from an earlier time. Between the Agreement, the Lock, and the lack of compelling models, I find myself only looking at older guns, mostly those from the 1950s and earlier. Half my collection is older than me (I'm 37). Of the rest, only two date from the 90s or newer. The older guns are still cheaper (when equiv models exist) to boot. The last 4 S&Ws I've picked up were much cheaper than any current model. Chris

The new Smith revolvers look too "modern" to me.....you just can't beat the lines of old classic S&Ws.

The prices are bad enough... but what I really don't like is the new rifling S&W uses in their revolvers. EDM (or whatever it is)rifling doesn't work very well with lead bullets.

I like the older guns. They are cheaper even if new in box than the new guns of the same or almost same model. Where am I going to find a NEW Model 15 for $450? It has to be the old gun...

Yes, I find it interesting, even discouraging that NIB/NOS pre-lock guns bring less money than new S&Ws. I really don't see why they should but that is reality.

Thanks. I'm not sure who made the holster. The stamp is hard to read. I'll take a closer look tomorrow.

Is it just me or do S&W's prices seem to be through the roof? I just read about their new J frame 327 Federal in American Rifleman. Over a grand retail??? And it isn't that good looking. Maybe I'm just getting old and cheap but that seems way high. The dealer I frequent doesn't think my Smith's are worth much at all when trading. O f course his are worth a mint.

I buy a lot of older Smiths, and I do prefer them to the newer MIM/lock/turdsuckers: www.gunblast.com/Boge_TripleLock.htmStill, S&W is making some newer sixguns that I absolutely LOVE: www.gunblast.com/SW-25Mountain.htm(one of my very favorite DA sixguns) www.gunblast.com/SW_342PD.htm(one of Jeff's favorite carry guns, now equipped with an XS "Big Dot" tritium front sight and a Crimson Trace lasergrip) www.gunblast.com/SW-340MP.htm(I carry this one often) www.gunblast.com/SW_317.htmwww.gunblast.com/SW-357MtnGun.htmwww.gunblast.com/SW-60Pro.htmwww.gunblast.com/SW625Mountain.htmwww.gunblast.com/SW-Nightguards.htmwww.gunblast.com/SW-610.htmwww.gunblast.com/SW329PD.htm(by the way - I do have a few reliable reports of lock failures in 329s using full-power magnum loads. I consider the 329PD to be a great carry 44 Special) www.gunblast.com/SW60_KitGun.htmThey are also making some great new sixguns that effectively evoke the spirits of the great S&Ws of the past: www.gunblast.com/SW-29Classic.htmwww.gunblast.com/SW-25Classic.htmwww.gunblast.com/SW-63.htmwww.gunblast.com/SW619-620.htmAnd some "new classics" that I absolutely HAD to have, and number among my favorite sixguns: www.gunblast.com/SW-21Classic.htmwww.gunblast.com/Cumpston_Mod24Heritage.htm(I just recently bought one of these, and absolutely LOVE it. Of course, it has no lock): So, do I love the older Smiths? Yes, indeed. Would I like it better if the new Smiths had no locks, had no MIM parts, and were pinned & recessed? Yes, of course. Will I let the existence of locks, etc. deter me from enjoying what are still some fine sixguns, or prejudice me against the great products S&W is making now? No way. The Clintonistas are LONG gone, and S&W is a great company now, making some great stuff. Are they perfect? No, but few companies are. S&W deserves my support, but NOT my blind loyalty. If they make products I like, then my inability to rise above snobbery to allow myself to enjoy these products would harm only me.

Wow Boge what a great collection of S&W Revolvers! I don't own 'em all, but I do own quite a few. The point I was trying to make is, S&W is still making great stuff, and our turning our noses up at the locks and such only keeps us from enjoying these fine sixguns.
