Excellent write up, very well done!
I have one question... what did you mean by 'false hammer'? No explanation of that very odd term... Is this revolver DAO only?

Thanks for the excellent report, Erich. You've confirmed a suspicion I have - I thinks I need me one of them! I'd like to give the longer barreled models a whirl, but I haven't seen or heard of one "out and about". Have they been released yet? FYI - The longer barreled models are to begin being released in January. Also, Grant Cunningham dissects the beast over on his website.

Markbo, thanks - the "hammer" is a cocking/de-cocking device - the actual hammer is internal, of course, as this gun fires from the bottom chamber. Cucuy's right - it's totally worth looking at Grant's blog posts on the innards.
I've loaded up some more max 180-gr .357 loads and hope to take the thing out for a real wring-out/chrono session this Thursday. Meanwhile, it carries IWB like a Detective Special . . .

Argh, Frank - now they're forecasting more snow and blow for Thursday. I sure hope this works out.

Erich, Thurs. am here found me shoveling snow out of our driveway. Up to 1-1/2' in one place where the wind had piled it up.
Hope your results were better.

Well even though its ugly at least its homely. Actually a very interesting concept. That's what some said of the initial Dan Wesson concept gun more than 40 years ago... However, I doubt this rubber-handled thing from Italy will eventually morph into a 1/4 of the fine revolver the DW made itself into. That preview could easily be because of a minor description difference..."a face only a Mother could love" vs. "a fistful of ugly". LOL! ;D Honestly though I'd like to try one myself, just to see what it feels like. Maybe the next time I visit my local indoor range, they'll have one there to look at.

Frank, alas - the blizzard took out my chronograph. I'm waiting on UPS to deliver the new one from Midway. Charger Fan, I like DWs, but the recoil reduction offered by the Rhino is actually pretty amazing.

(Hi Groo! ) The new Chrony arrived Thursday. On Saturday morning, the old Chrony was thoroughly dried-out and worked fine. Well, now I have a back-up! Here are some data from my shooting session - I shot a lot of .38 +P and +P+ handloads as well, but I don't want anyone hurting himself with greater-than-SAAMI-spec .38 rounds (all from pre-'72 manuals), so I won't include that data. 8 Jan 11 ABQ City Range 5950'>sea level, 38°F, c. 40% humidity Chiappa Rhino 200DS 2" .357 Magnum rounds Fiocchi 142-gr FMJ truncated cone: M 1155/ES 35.10/SD 13.92 S&B 158-gr JSP: M 1051/ES 48.01/SD 16.37 Winchester 145-gr STHP: M 1124/ES 55.46/SD 22.62 TVB 158-gr LSWC/14.0 gr 2400/mag primer: M 1128/ES 56.00/SD 23.02 TVB 180-gr truncated cone/7.0 gr Power Pistol/mag primer: M 913.3/ES 28.88/SD 10.39 New shooting impressions: First of all, the gun seems to shoot at least as accurately for me DA offhand as it does SA from the sandbags. Go figure. Might be the weird trigger and is probably a familiarity issue. The gun shot well for me offhand and just fine from the bags. It seemed to like the magnum-loaded 180-grainers a whole lot. Other rounds would often put four bullets in a single hole with two fliers. From past experience, I tend to think this is “pilot error,” though I have to be honest and say that I often did not notice any issue on my part (and I’m usually pretty good at calling it when I foul up). I suspect - again - this might be the weird (heavy, smooshy) trigger and my lack of familiarity with it. Here are 6 rounds of 180-gr .357s, offhand @ 10 ydsEvery so often the action would be very difficult to pull, and the cylinder would seemingly almost jerk to the next chamber. I suspect this might have had to do with occlusion of the very narrow barrel/cylinder gap. Okay, that said: WOW, do I like the lack of muzzle flip in this gun. To give you an idea of what I’m talking about, I shot about 100 balls-out magnum rounds and maybe 150 .38 Special rounds (most in the +P or +P+ range) in about an hour from this 25-ounce snub. No soreness at all in the hand. I then shot about 100 .22 LR s from the cutnose pre-17 and went back to shooting the Rhino: about 30 more full-bore magnums and another 50 .38s. Still no soreness. (No flinch, either - I was really having fun, though people were coming by to see what was making all the blast. The Rhino utterly befuddled them all.) So, after all that, I shoot 15 rounds of Federal generic 115-grain ball from an all-steel Star BM. You know what my thought was? “Man, does this 9mm jump!” Of course, a Star BM with generic ball hardly moves at all in one’s hand. I’m afraid the Rhino may ruin me for regular guns - it’s just so easy to shoot. In all seriousness, I can see this being a great training gun for beginners - I just can’t imagine them starting to flinch even with full-bore magnum loads. The Winchester STHP .357 looks to be a great carry round. Bear in mind that its recoil feels less sharp from this gun than does the FBI Load’s from an airweight J-frame. (Wow.) I tried to chrono my stand-by 180-gr TVB .357 loading (9.7 gr Blue Dot), but the arc-lamp NM sun hit the electric eyes at that point and fouled up my readings. I was ready to go home (had lunch plans with Gina, a nephew and his fiancée, and Dad, my stepmother and her sister were on their way for a visit), so I didn’t mess with it anymore. I’m serious about how little this thing jumps and how it’s ruining me for regular guns. I can shoot it fast and accurately without any agita at all. (It’s also easier to shoot weak-handed than the average handgun.) In fact, I put away the 9mm PPS I was carrying right after I got the Rhino cleaned up - I’d rather carry the Rhino (even tho it’s a little fatter in my waistband) because I’d rather have the Rhino if (G-d forbid) I needed to use it.

I just shot three of the Rhyno revolvers (here at Media Day, the day before SHOT opens), and let me tell ya...
They are BEAUTIFUL.
